A circuit-interrupting device includes a load-breaker operable between an open state and a closed state and a first interlock member operatively associated with the load-breaker. The first interlock member moves between a first position and a second position when the load-breaker moves between the closed state and the open state. The circuit-interrupting device further includes a disconnect switch that moves between an open state and a closed state. When the load-breaker is in the closed state, the first interlock member is in the first position and contacts the disconnect switch to prevent the disconnect switch from moving from the closed state to the open state.

A solid-dielectric switch includes a visible disconnect assembly having an open state and a closed state. A molded housing at least partially encases the visible disconnect assembly. At least a portion of the molded housing forms a molded one-piece wall having an inner surface and an outer surface. An aperture in the molded one-piece wall extends between the inner surface and the outer surface of the wall. A viewing window is disposed in the aperture and molded into the molded wall. The viewing window includes a lens, wherein the viewing window has an outer edge that is embedded within the molded one-piece wall with the outer edge extending into the molded one-piece wall between the inner surface and the outer surface of the molded one-piece wall.

Modular switchgear and methods for manufacturing the same. The modular switchgear includes a vacuum interrupter assembly, a source conductor assembly, and a housing assembly. The vacuum interrupter assembly includes a bushing, a fitting, and a vacuum interrupter at least partially molded within the bushing and including a movable contact and a stationary contact. The source conductor assembly includes a bushing, a fitting, and a source conductor molded within the bushing. The housing assembly includes a housing defining a chamber and a drive shaft and conductor positioned within the chamber. The housing assembly also includes a first receptacle for receiving the fitting of the vacuum interrupter assembly and a second receptacle for receiving the fitting of the source conductor assembly. The vacuum interrupter assembly, the source conductor assembly, and the housing assembly are coupled without molding the assemblies within a common housing.

An interlock system for a circuit-interrupting device. The circuit-interrupting device includes a gearbox, a load-breaker in series with a visible disconnect, and an assembly driving the visible disconnect between an open state and a closed state. The interlock system includes a cam and a bias-driven follower. The cam is coupled to a shaft and is driven by the shaft between a first cam state when the load-breaker is in an open state and a second cam state when the load-breaker is in a closed state. The bias-driven follower has a first follower state when the cam is in the first cam state and has a second follower state when the cam is in the second cam state. In the second follower state, the bias-driven follower blocks movement of at least one component of the assembly. The cam and the bias-driver follower are positioned inside the gearbox.

A solid-dielectric switch including a visible disconnect assembly having an open state and a closed state, a molded housing at least partially encasing the visible disconnect assembly, a viewing window molded into the molded housing, wherein the visible disconnect is visible through the viewing window. The invention also provides a method of molding the housing of the solid-dielectric switch. The method includes providing a mold including an external shell and an internal mandrel. The external shell defines external dimensions of a housing of the switch, and the internal mandrel defines internal dimensions of the housing. The method also includes providing a lens for a viewing window, sealing the lens between the external shell and the inner mandrel, and filling the mold with epoxy to mold the viewing window into the housing of the switch.

An encapsulated fuse for power distribution systems and method for producing such fuses is provided. A fuse includes a body with opposing terminals. A corona shield is generally coaxial with the fuse and substantially extends the full length of the fuse body. The corona shield is electrically coupled at its first end with a first fuse terminal. The second end of the corona shield has a slightly larger cross-section than the first end to provide electrical isolation from the second fuse terminal. The fuse and attached corona shield are molded in an encapsulating material.

A shielded encapsulated vacuum interrupter with a ceramic vacuum chamber and opposing conductive end caps is provided. One end cap is electrically connected to a fixed contact, while an opposing end cap is connected to a moving contact. The moving contact is actuatable with the fixed contact for opening or closing an electric circuit. A floating shield inside the vacuum chamber connected to the vacuum chamber ceramic wall and spaced from the fixed and moving contacts is isolated and has a floating voltage potential. A portion of the vacuum chamber exterior ceramic wall is coated with a semi-conductive material and conductive voltage screens enclose a portion of the vacuum chamber exterior and are electrically connected to each conductive end cap of the vacuum chamber. The chamber and connected screens are encapsulated in a molded dielectric housing.

An over-current control device, either single or three phased, is provided for protecting equipment and persons under fault conditions. The control device incorporates integrated circuitry to provide over-current protection to monitored circuits/components. The preferred embodiments of the device include time/current characteristic circuitry and trip circuitry to cause the contacts of a relay to transition, thereby actuating a magnetic latch and providing either direct or indirect over-current control.

A connector having an elongated, multi-chamber, corrosion resistant, insulating, plastic housing provides for connecting a flexible power cable to equipment associated with a fixed device. One end of the housing is bolted to the fixed device. The opposite end and a central location of the housing have entrances for receiving bushings that may have a flexible power cable connected thereto. A floating adapter bushing is located between the busing and a recess in order to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction which may occur between equipment carrying the adapter and recess. The housing may include a vacuum interrupter or other suitable device. A plurality of the housings may be stacked together in order to provide for making combinations of selected parts and cables on a basis of unique requirements at a specific location.

An electrical switch apparatus comprising at least one set of contacts including a movable contact and a stationary contact, at least one chamber surrounding the contacts, a first support for supporting the chamber, a second support for supporting the stationary contact with respect to the chamber, an adhesive for attaching the first and second supports to the chamber, a non-circular drive shaft, a connection mechanism for coupling the moving contact to the drive shaft, a locating mechanism for securing the connection mechanism along the drive shaft, a coupling mechanism associated with the drive shaft for transmitting rotational energy to the drive shaft, the coupling mechanism having an adaptor that mates with the drive shaft with a clearance between the adaptor and the shaft, and a castable material filling the clearance to form an interface between the drive shaft and the adaptor.
