Heat pipe (10) includes an acute angle leading wedge shape form (38) with a radiused leading edge (26). Engine fuel supply (65) cools the trailing wedge shape form (40). The intense heat flux at the leading edge is cleanly dissipated and spread over substantial heat pipe cooling surface (64, 66). A coating (36) on the external surface of the leading edge wedge shape form is formed of a layer of iridium and a layer of oxide.

Leading edge heat pipe arrangement

A laser ring mirror assembly is disclosed which supports and cools an annular ring mirror of a high powered laser with a cooling manifold which has a coolant flow design which is intended to reduce thermal distortions of the ring mirror by minimizing azimuthal variations in temperature around its circumference. The cooling manifold has complementary pairs of cooling passages each of which conduct coolant in opposite flow directions. The manifold also houses adjusters which vary the depth between the annular ring mirror and each cooling passage, and which vary the flow area of the cooling passage to produce a control over the cooling characteristics of the cooling manifold.

Variable area manifolds for ring mirror heat exchangers

A flap and seal assembly for an exhaust nozzle having a flap liner and seal liner which are in slidable engagement with one another. The seal liner has a facesheet, grid sheet and corrugated supporting sheet while the flap liner has a facesheet and an inner support sheet. The specific inter-relationship between the various elements of the flap and seal liner provides improved support, hot gas aspiration as well as vibratory damping which thereby allows for the use of thinner materials in the construction of the liner assembly.
