In one of its aspects, the present invention relates to an endovascular prosthesis. The endovascular prosthesis includes a first expandable portion expandable from a first, unexpanded state to a second, expanded state to urge the first expandable portion against a vascular lumen and a retractable leaf portion attached to the first expandable portion. The retractable leaf portion comprises at least one spine portion and a plurality of rib portions attached to the spine portion. Longitudinally adjacent pairs of rib portions are free of interconnecting struts. The endovascular prosthesis that can be unsheathed and re-sheathed for repositioning of the endovascular prosthesis prior to final deployment thereof. There is also described a delivery device that that is particularly well suited to delivering the present endovascular prosthesis through tortuous vasculature in the body.

Endovascular prosthesis and delivery device

There is disclosed a novel endovascular prosthesis that has an improved rotational range of proper placement of the prosthesis with respect to the opening of the aneurysm and provides improved flexibility with respect to longitudinal positioning of the device in the artery. This provides the clinician with a significant advantage over the prior art devices described above. The present elongate endovascular prosthesis comprises a first expandable portion expandable from a first, unexpanded state to a second, expanded state to urge the first expandable portion against the wall of the vascular lumen such as an artery. The endovascular prosthesis further comprises a retractable leaf portion attached to the first expandable portion; the retractable leaf portion serves to facilitate stasis and thrombotic occlusion of the aneurysm. The retractable leaf portion comprises at least one spine portion and a plurality of rib portions attached to the spine portion.

Endovascular prosthesis and method for delivery of an endovascular prosthesis

In one of its aspects, the present invention relates to an endovascular prosthesis. The endovascular prosthesis comprises a first expandable portion expandable from a first, unexpanded state to a second, expanded state to urge the first expandable portion against a vascular lumen and a retractable leaf portion attached to the first expandable portion. An expandable stent comprising a proximal end and a distal end in communication with one another, a tubular wall disposed between the proximal end and the distal end, the tubular wall having a longitudinal axis and a porous surface defined by a plurality of interconnected struts, the interconnected struts comprising a gradient of strut thickness from a first end to a second end of the tubular wall, the stent being expandable from a first, contracted position to a second, expanded position upon the application of a radially outward force on the stent. The stent is ideally suited for applications in which a tortuous pathway must be followed to the stenosis or blockage and in which high radial rigidity of the expanded stent is required e.g., the treatment of ostial stenosis.

Expandable stent

A balloon dilation catheter comprising a tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end. An inflatable balloon is disposed at the distal end of the tubular member. A first lumen is disposed in the tubular member and in is communication with an interior of the inflatable balloon. A second lumen is disposed in the tubular member for receiving a guidewire substantially along a portion of its length. The second lumen has a first opening in the proximal region of the tubular member and a second opening at the distal region of the tubular member. A first slit is disposed longitudinally in the tubular member and extends along at least a portion of the tubular member, the first slit comprising a first pair of longitudinal edges in a side by side relationship. The tubular member is constructed of a resilient material such that, as the guidewire is separated from the second lumen, the longitudinal edges are biassed open from a first position to a second position having a gap greater than or equal a diameter of the guidewire. The subject balloon dilation catheter provides improved rapid exchange advantages of either the catheter or the guidewire used in a catheterization technique.

Stent delivery system and method of use

A endovascular prosthesis for implantation in a body passageway. The prosthesis comprises a tubular wall which is: (i) movable between a first longitudinal length and a second longitudinally length, and (ii) radially expandable for implantation of the prosthesis in the body passageway. In one embodiment, the tubular wall has a longitudinally length which is variable by an 'accordion'-like action. In another embodiment, the tubular wall has a longitudinally length which is variable by an 'telescoping'-like action. The longitudinal length of the tubular wall may be varied in vivo to optimize deployment of the endovascular prosthesis.

Endovascular prosthesis

A balloon dilation catheter comprising: a tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end and an inflatable balloon disposed at the distal end of the tubular member. The tubular member comprises a first lumen disposed in communication with an interior of the inflatable balloon and a second lumen for receiving a guidewire substantially along the entire length of the tubular member. The second lumen has a first opening at the proximal end of the tubular member and a second opening at the distal end of the tubular member. A first slit is disposed longitudinally from the first opening along substantially the entire length of the tubular member to permit separation of the guidewire with respect to the second lumen. The subject balloon dilation catheter provides improved rapid exchange advantages of either the catheter or the guidewire used in a catheterization technique.

An expandable stent having a proximal end and a distal end in communication with one another, and a tubular wall disposed between the proximal end and the distal end. The tubular wall has a longitudinal axis and a porous surface defined by a plurality of intersecting members comprising a series of longitudinal struts disposed substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the stent. Each longitudinal strut in the series comprises flexure members for substantially complementary extension and compression of a diametrically opposed pair of the longitudinal struts upon flexure of the stent. The flexure members may comprise first and second curved sections which are of a different size. At least one of the curved sections may comprise an arc of greater than about 180&#xb0;.

Expandable stent and method for delivery of same

An expandable endovascular prosthesis comprising: body having a proximal end and a distal end; a first expandable portion disposed between the proximal end and the distal end, the tubular first expandable portion being expandable from a first, unexpanded state to a second, expanded state with a radially outward force thereon to urge the first expandable portion against a vascular lumen; and a second expandable portion attached to the first tubular expandable portion; the second expandable portion being expandable upon expansion of the tubular first expandable portion. The endovascular prosthesis is particularly useful in the treatment of aneurysms, particularly saccular aneurysms. Thus, the first expandable portion serves the general purpose of fixing the endovascular prosthesis in place at a target vascular lumen or body passageway in the vicinity at which the aneurysm is located and, upon expansion of the first expandable portion, the second expandable portion expands to block the aneurysmal opening thereby leading to obliteration of the aneurysm. A method of delivering and implanting the endovascular prosthesis is also described.

An expandable bifurcated stent comprising a proximal end and a distal end in communication with one another. The proximal end comprises a primary passageway and the distal end comprises a pair of secondary passageways. The stent is expandable from a first, contracted position to a second, expanded position upon the application of a radially outward force exerted on the stent. Each of the primary passageway and the secondary passageway being constructed of a tubular wall having a porous surface, a method for production of a bifurcated stent is also described. The method comprises the step of connecting a first stent section to a second stent section, the first stent section having an end thereof adapted for connection to an opening disposed along the length of a second stent section.
