A tire fill valve having pressure relief and tire fill fluid gas flow limiting characteristics for use in filling tires to a predetermined pressure form a large flow capacity gas source delivering fill gas at a substantially greater pressure. Gases utilized typically are air or nitrogen. The valve of the invention is wheel mounted intermediate the gas pressurizing source and the tire gas valve inlet. Tire fill gas from a high pressure high capacity source passes through a flow limiting orifice having a positive closure or shutoff member and passes through a pressure sensitive chamber as it enters the tire. Chamber pressure is sensed by a spring loaded valve disk controlling relief or venting orifices. When fill pressure in the pressure sensing chamber exceeds a pre-determined value established by the valve disk area and valve disk springs, the disk lifts allowing the venting of the fill gas. Overpressurization of the pressure sensitive chamber and tire with the disk in its relief position is prevented by limited flow and/or positive shutoff through the chamber entrance or flow limiting orifice.

Tire inflation valve having overpressure and flow control

A natural gas fueling system is set forth for filling one or more vehicle tanks from a supply such as a storage tank or a main gas line. The system includes at least one hose assembly having one end adapted to connect to a tank and the other end having a female coupling. Also included is a dispensing assembly having a manually operated valve to control the flow of gas from supply. Connected to the valve is at least one male coupling adapted to be releasably received by the female coupling. The male and female couplings permit the hose assembly to be pulled and disconnected from the dispensing assembly to prevent damage to the hose or dispensing assembly. Additionally, the couplings are provided with check valves to stop the flow of gas when disconnected. A vent is provided to vent any leaking gas as is a locking structure to lock each hose assembly to prevent unauthorized use.

Natural gas fueling system

A movable tube controls the flow of fluid from supply through a regulator to discharge in response to pressure acting on a piston in a control chamber at discharge and opposed by a spring in a spring chamber. When the discharge pressure reaches a prescribed, regulated value, the tube no longer moves. The pressure drop through the regulator occurs at the outer diameter of the tube; consequently, no area of the tube sees supply side pressure that would tend to displace the tube. On the discharge side, the tube extends into a necked passage between a control chamber and an exit port to aspirate fluid from the control chamber and compensate for loss of spring force due to spring relaxation. The tube also closes when there is a sudden loss of discharge side pressure. The tube closes on the supply side against an elastomeric seat carried by a removable plug. The spring chamber is between supply side and discharge side downstream of a seal for the tube, and any leakage past the seal goes to atmosphere through a vent. More than one inlet and exit port permits flexibility in connection.

Fluid regulator

Pressure responsive flow control apparatus for connection between a source of emergency breathing gas and a hood adapted to fit about a wearer's head for receiving the breathing gas at a controlled flow for inhalation and for receiving the exhalations of the wearer. The flow control apparatus includes a pressure regulating valve operative to maintain a substantially constant discharge pressure to the hood despite progressively decreasing source pressure. Further included is a flow control valve operative against a bias force, and responsive to source pressure, to control gas flow to the hood, the bias force being effective to move the flow control valve such that the rate of gas flow increases with diminishing source pressure thereby to compensate for increased concentration of carbon dioxide in the hood resulting from cumulative exhalations of the wearer.

Pressure responsive flow control apparatus for breathing system

A damping valve for a pressure regulator wherein the valve is actuated by a valve diaphragm and coacts with an inlet orifice formed in the transverse wall separating the inlet from the outlet. An outlet chamber is formed on the outlet side of the wall. A damping chamber is formed in the housing below the valve and separated from the outlet chamber by a flexible seal. A connecting rod passes through the central aperture in the seal, and has one end connected to the valve and the other end connected to a piston slidingly disposed in the damping chamber. The piston has a hexagonal head having six circular segmented openings or flats which provide passages for a hydraulic liquid which fills the damping chamber to pass from one side of the piston to the other whenever the piston is moved responsive to a corresponding movement of the valve. The flexible seal acts as a volume compensator whereby volume changes resulting from pressure or temperature variations, or connecting rods penetration into the liquid damping chamber are continuously compensated for.
