Providing a network address is disclosed. A communication indicating that a first node desires to communicate via a packet data network with a second node configured to provide access to a private resource is received. A non-publicly advertised packet data network address usable to communicate with the second node via the packet data network is provided to the first node.

Auto-discovery of a non-advertised public network address

A self-configuring mobile telecommunication base station is disclosed. A communication interface is configured to connect to an access network other than a mobile telecommunication network with which the base station is associated. A processor coupled to the communication interface is configured to establish a connection, at least in part via the access network, to an element associated with the mobile telecommunication network; receive via the access network an initialization data; and use the initialization data to configure the base station to provide access to mobile telecommunication services at least in part using a resource determined based at least in part on the initialization data.

Providing mobile network security is disclosed. A first mobile network provider equipment registers using a secret data that is known to a registration entity with which the first mobile network provider equipment is configured to register and embodied in a physical device associated with the first mobile network provider equipment in a manner that enables the physical device to be used to perform a cryptographic function using the secret data but prevents the physical device from being used to provide the secret data as output. An encryption data usable to communicate securely with a second mobile network provider equipment over a packet data network is received from the registration entity.

Facilitating use of a restricted base transceiver station is disclosed. To a first set of subscribers associated with a mobile network operator, access to a mobile network is provided via base transceiver stations associated with a first mobile network identifier associated with the mobile network operator but not via base transceiver stations associated with a second mobile network identifier associated with the mobile network operator. To each of a second set of subscribers associated with the mobile network operator, access to the mobile network is provided via a corresponding subset of a set of base transceiver stations associated with the second mobile network identifier, the subset including for each subscriber in the second set one or more base transceiver stations with respect to which that subscriber is an authorized user.

Facilitating use of a restricted base tranceiver station

Disclosed embodiments include a system and method for prioritizing access requests from a plurality of remote units, wherein the access requests are requests for uplink access in a fixed wireless network. In one embodiment, the system receives an access request from at least two remote units. The system also receives a priority request from the remote units, which may be separate or related to the access requests. The system analyzes the access requests based on the priority requests and determines which remote units will be granted uplink access to the network. The system then transmits an indication of at least one remote unit that is allowed to transmit on an uplink channel. In one embodiment, the access request and priority request are encompassed within two or more tones transmitted from a remote unit. Many other alternatives and alternative embodiments are also disclosed.

System and method of assigning priority to remote units in a collision free multiple access protocol

A method of dynamically controlling congestion in a wireless communication system. The method generally comprises the steps of: (a) the medium access control layer detecting congestion; (b) the medium access control layer communicating a control message with the data link control layer indicating a congested state; (c) in the congested state, the data link layer placing frames received from a higher layer into a data link layer queue and suspending frame transmission to the medium access control layer; and (d) upon receipt of a control message indicating an uncongested state, the data link control layer sending frames to the medium access control layer.

Medium access dynamic congestion control mechanism for wireless data

In a wireless communications system, a data link layer and a medium access control layer are connected to each other by data and control paths, where the data path is operable to exchange frames between the data link layer and the medium access control layer and the control path is operable to exchange control messages between the data link layer and the medium access control layer. The data link layer includes a queue for storing frames received from the medium access control layer and the medium access control layer includes a queue for storing frames received from the data link layer. The data link layer is adapted to pass new data frames from a higher layer relative to the data link layer into the data link layer queue and to suspend a retransmission timer upon a congestion message received from the medium access control layer, the congestion message being responsive to a level of stored frames in the medium access control queue.

A method of recovering lost frames transmitted between a packet data sending unit and a packet data receiving unit in a data communications system is disclosed. When a frame is successfully received by the packet data receiving unit, it identifies a failure to successfully receive prior frames, i.e., at least one frame prior to the frame successfully received at the packet data receiving unit. The packet data receiving unit starts a selective reject wait timer and determines whether the number of frames missed so far is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold. If the number of missed frames is greater than or equal to the preset limit, the packet data receiving unit generates a selective reject message that includes a payload indicating a first missed frame and subsequent missed frames. If the number of missed frames is less than the predetermined threshold, the packet data receiving unit waits until the expiration of the selective reject wait timer, or until after the next determination that the number of missed frames meets or exceeds the predetermined threshold. It then sends the selective reject message to the packet data sending unit. Upon successful receipt of the retransmitted missed frames from the packet data sending unit, the packet data receiving unit generates a receive ready message and sends the receive ready message to the packet data sending unit.
