A system for on-stream sampling of pressurized process gas such as natural gas or the like, including pressurized process gas having liquid entrained therein, or otherwise referenced as 'wet'. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates a system for obtaining an accurate sample of process gas, as well as providing an apparatus for obtaining same.

Wet natural gas sampling method and apparatus therefore

A system for on-stream sampling of pressurized process gas such as natural gas or the like, said pressurized process gas having liquid entrained therein, or otherwise referenced as 'wet'. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates a system for obtaining an accurate sample of said wet process gas, as well as providing an apparatus for obtaining same.

A system for insertion of a probe into a pressurized fluid stream by means of a threaded body formed to engage an elastomeric seal employed to form a fluid barrier thereabout. The present invention contemplates a system which effectively lessens resonance vibration effects and associated damage resulting there from in fluid sampling probes operating in high velocity fluid streams and the like, utilizing mechanical dampening properties associated with its seal(s) and insert(s), forming non-rigid attachment to support the length of the probe in a manner which facilitates resonance absorption and dampening, so as to lessen associated vibration/oscillation in the system. The threaded body forms, in effect, helical strakes to facilitate aerodynamic stabilization and reduce oscillations/vibration, as well as reduce force and deflection caused by high velocity fluid flow passing thereby.

An optical liquid sensor utilizing a light source, fiber optic cables, a light detector and an irregular transparent surface is provided to detect the presence of liquid in mist and continuous form. The sensor may be integrated into a probe designed for insertion into a pressurized fluid process.

A moveable end (ME) sample cylinder device is provided which employs a method of collection wherein the initial cylinder volume of the collection vessel or sampling cylinder is zero. The sample cylinder is inserted into the pressurized gas (or fluid) source for spot sampling thereof, said sample cylinder employing a piston or moveable end configured such that purging of the cylinder sample cavity is not required, since the sample cavity volume is essentially eliminated prior to sampling by the location of the piston within the cavity, the cavity expanding upon sampling via piston movement within the cavity. Also contemplated is a cap/body (CB) spot sample cylinder having a low internal volume and which can be inserted into a pressurized process through common valving. Insertion of the CB sample cylinder into the process eliminates purging of interconnecting tubing and also eliminates the impact of low ambient temperatures which can otherwise alter the spot sample composition. The CB sample cylinder cap may be provided to function as a fill/empty valve.

Devices for obtaining cylinder samples of natural gas or process gas and methods therefore

A multi-stage pressure regulator system. The system of the present invention provides for distribution of the Joules-Thomson (J-T) cooling effect between multiple stages. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pressure is first reduced by a set ratio in one or more stages followed by an adjustable pressure output stage. The present invention thereby provides a system to control pressure reduction and thus prevent condensation (and associated distortion of a vapor composition sample) of a gas due to J-T cooling effect. The system of the present invention is particularly suitable for use placement (via, for example, a probe) within the source gas supply containment vessel, pipeline or the like, so that pressure reduction occurs at or near isothermal conditions, further lessening the likelihood of J-T condensation.

Multi-stage ratio pressure regulator system

A system for retrieving a fluid sample from a fluid source. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates a system for insertion of a probe into a pressurized fluid stream by means of male threads which are threadly engaged in a female threaded housing. An elastomeric seal is employed to form a fluid barrier around a segment of the probe's outer surface.

Wet natural gas sampling method and apparatus

An on-stream sample collection and conditioning system, which is easier to construct, implement, maintain, and is more cost efficient then existing systems. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates a modular system adaptable to a variety of diverse sample conditioning requirements. The system provides a docking surface specifically designed to receive modular conditioning or sampling components or the like in order to readily engage a system of passages to provide fluid flow between the mounted components. An embodiment of the invention provides a flow component having grooves formed therethrough reflecting the desired flow configuration, which is isolated from the flow component and sealed and to provide flow passages. The docking surface has access apertures formed to engage the flow passages, providing access to modular components mounted thereon.

An assembly for insertion and retraction of probe or probe-like device which does not require a seal or packing gland, instead utilizing pressure equalization between pressurized process fluids and the housing containing a probe, so as to negate the use of a dynamic seal. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates an inserting/retraction mechanism for raising and lowering the probe into and from the pressurized fluid, respectively. A housing having a valve is configured to allow fluid communication between the pressurized fluid source, and the interior of the housing assembly. A conduit engages the housing assembly, and is formed to slidingly receive the outer diameter of the probe therethrough, such that a sliding seal maintains a fluid seal between the outer wall of the probe and the inner wall of the conduit, as the probe is telescoped therethrough during insertion and retraction of the probe into/from the pressurized process.

Portable insertable probe assembly including hazardous operations capability

A sample pump system for metering the amount of sample taken from a pressurized fluid process such as a natural gas pipeline or the like, the sample pump system designed for immersion, directly or indirectly, into the pressurized fluid stream so that the sampling is taken at the prevailing pressure and temperature of the fluid stream. Devices for obtaining cylinder samples of natural gas or process gas, and methods therefore

A gas sample cylinder outlet valve having a flow restricting element associated therewith. The preferred embodiment of the flow restricting element comprises an orifice constructed of a low thermal conduction material such as a plastic. Preferably the outlet valve Ccharacteristic is large relative to the orifice Ccharacteristic resulting in essentially all of the gas pressure drop taking place across said orifice and therefore essentially all of the J-T effect cooling taking place at said orifice. Due to the low thermal conductivity construction of said orifice an insignificant amount of cooling takes place upstream of the valve mechanism. Test have shown that the integral orifice outlet valve having a large Ccharacteristic is more efficient then the typical sample cylinder outlet valve and extension tube and/or flow restrictor combination.

The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates a modular system adaptable to a variety of diverse sample conditioning requirements. The system having incorporated a seamless piece having a surface for docking multiple sample conditioning components and having a system of internal passages to provide fluid flow between sample conditioning components. The preferred embodiment of the present invention also contemplates a modular system containing essentially the entire sample conditioning components required for one or more fluid streams.
