A computerized method is disclosed that includes operations performed by logic processing on a network device of detecting, (i) movement of the network device at a speed above a predetermined threshold and (ii) presence of a transceiver, implementing a set of policies on the network device, wherein implementation of the set of policies is configured to restrict functionality of the network device according to a predefined list of functionalities, and detecting that the speed of the network device is zero miles per hour (mph). Additionally, the method includes, while continuing to detect that the speed of the network device is zero mph, altering a trip duration counter at predetermined time intervals, and determining an end of a trip of the network device has occurred when the trip duration counter is altered to a predetermined value, wherein the trip includes the network device traveling within a vehicle.

A computerized method is disclosed that includes operations of detecting movement of a first network device at a speed above a predetermined threshold and the presence of a transceiver, obtaining a network device identifier-RSSI value pairing from the transceiver that includes a listing of a pairing of a network device identifier for each of a plurality of network devices detected by the transceiver, and a RSSI value corresponding to a transmission received by the transceiver from each of the plurality of network devices. The method may further include an operation of implementing a set of policies on the first network device based on a result of a comparison between when RSSI value of the first network device and a predetermined RSSI threshold. The set of policies may be implemented on a plurality of network devices based on results of threshold comparisons using RSSI values of the plurality of network devices.

Detection of network devices within a driver envelope and implementation of policy thereon

A computerized method and system are disclosed that are directed to determining whether a communicatively coupling has been established between a network device and a transceiver, where both the network device and the transceiver are typically located within the cabin of a vehicle. The computerized method may include detecting movement of the first network device at a speed greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold indicating the vehicle is in motion and attempting to communicatively couple the first network device with the transceiver via both a first wireless communication module and a second wireless communication module at least a predetermine number of times. When a communicatively coupling cannot be established, an inactivity timer is decremented and is further decremented as long as system activity is not detected. When the inactivity timer decrements to a predetermined value, a notification indicating that the communicative coupling was not established is generated.

Systems and methods for detection of failure to establish a communicative coupling between network device and transceiver device

A computerized method for determining a network device handling event of a network device is disclosed herein. The computerized method includes operation by logic processing on the network device including detecting movement of the network device above a predetermined speed threshold by a software application running on the network device, the network device in communication with a wireless transceiver device, establishing a position baseline of the network device, detecting a motion event of the network device, verifying the motion event of the network device, detecting the motion event of the network device as a network device handling event, and generating a device handling alert.

A computerized method for determining whether a first network device located within a vehicle is a driver device or is within a driver envelope is disclosed. A computerized method for determining whether a first wireless communication module of a first network device located within a vehicle is disabled is disclosed. The computerized method includes operations of detecting movement of the first network device at a speed greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold, determining that a first communicative coupling with a transceiver using the first wireless communication module of the first network device cannot be established, determining that a second communicative coupling with the transceiver using a second wireless communication module of the first network device has been established, and generating an alert indicating that the first wireless communication module of the first network device is disabled while the first network device is located in the vehicle and in proximity to the transceiver. The first wireless communication module may be a BLUETOOTH&#xae; module and the second wireless communication module may be a WI-FI&#xae; module.

The apparatus includes a housing, a battery displaced within the housing, and circuitry displaced at least partially within the housing, the circuitry including an integrated circuit, an accelerometer, and a communications interface. The housing is formed from one or more of hardened plastic, metal, glass or composite. The circuitry further includes a vibration sensor. The communication interface enables communications with external network devices or a cloud server. The circuitry includes logic to perform operations including: receiving signals from one or more network devices; and parsing a first signal to identify (i) a unique identifier of a first network device of the one or more network devices, wherein the first network device transmitted the first signal, and (ii) determine a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value of the first signal.

System, method and apparatus for restricting use of a network device through automated policy enforcement

A computerized method performed by logic of a wireless transceiver coupled to an interior of an automobile. The computerized method includes operations of responsive to an application processing on a first network device detecting a speed below a predetermined threshold, receiving a first instruction initiating the logic of the wireless transceiver, obtaining sensory data indicating an acceleration value from an accelerometer of the wireless transceiver, and transmitting the sensory data to the first network device. The computerized method includes situations in which the acceleration value indicates at least one of positive acceleration or negative acceleration. The computerized method includes situations in which the sensory data includes one or more interrupts generated by the accelerometer when the acceleration value exceeds a predetermined threshold. The computerized method includes situations in which the application processing on the first network device utilizes the series of binary bits to decrement or reset a delay timer.

System, method and apparatus to maintain policy enforcement on a network device

A computerized method performed by logic processing on a first network device is disclosed. The computerized method includes operations performed by a logic of a first network device includes detecting movement of the first network at a speed above a predetermined threshold and presence of a wireless transceiver, transmitting a message to the wireless transceiver that includes instructions for the wireless transceiver to perform a plurality of scans for additional network devices, receiving a set of lists corresponding to scans performed by the wireless transceiver, each of the set of lists indicating a first group of network devices detected by the wireless transceiver, determining a subset of the first set of the detected network devices present on each list of the set of lists, and responsive to the subset of the first set of the detected network devices exceeding a policy threshold limit, transmitting an alert.
