A method and apparatus for monitoring connectivity in a network at a bearer path layer are disclosed. For example, the method receives a request to monitor a user endpoint, identifies an internet protocol address of the user endpoint, an internet protocol address of each transport network element between the user endpoint and a bearer trace server, a bearer path identification of each bearer used by the user endpoint, a quality of service associated with each bearer used by the user endpoint, and a tunnel identification of each bearer used by the user endpoint; and performs a fault isolation and performance monitoring at a bearer path layer, wherein the fault isolation identifies a particular segment where a fault is detected at the bearer path layer.

A system is disclosed for inserting advertising description data into an audio/visual data stream, the system including but not limited to a first server processor in data communication with a first computer program comprising instructions embedded in a computer readable medium, wherein the processor is configured to insert advertising trigger signal data into the audio/visual data stream at a super head office (SHO) and send the audio/visual data stream with trigger signal data to an end user client device; and a second processor at a VHO is configured to receive the audio visual data stream and trigger signal data from the first processor, generate a per-VHO multicast data stream and inject advertising description data into the per-VHO multicast stream upon detection of the advertising trigger data in the audio/visual data stream and send the per-VHO multicast data stream from the VHO to the end user client device.

System and method for recording and time-shifting programming in a television distribution system using policies

A particular method includes measuring port usage data related to each of a plurality of physical ports associated with a link aggregation group. A bandwidth requirement of a requested media stream is estimated and added to a traffic load at each of the plurality of physical ports to produce an estimated total traffic load of each of the plurality of physical ports. When the requested media stream includes non-video data, the requested media stream is sent to a destination device via a physical port that selected in accordance with a static bandwidth allocation. When the requested media stream includes video data, the requested media stream is sent to the destination device via a least loaded physical port that is dynamically identified based on the estimated traffic loads of each of the plurality of physical ports.

A method to perform dynamic source selection within an IP multicast network is performed at a designated router of an IP multicast network. At the designated router within the IP multicast network, a first source of a multicast group is selected to be forwarded to a receiving host or multiple receiving hosts. The first source is monitored to automatically detect when the first source exhibits a predetermined characteristic. At the designated router, responsive to the detection that the first source exhibits the predetermined characteristic, a second source of the multicast group is automatically selected to be forwarded to the receiving host or hosts. The method also supports automatic selection of all normally operating sources and forwarding of the traffic of such sources or channels to the receiving hosts or hosts.

In an embodiment, a method of allocating media streams includes measuring real-time port usage data related to each of a plurality of physical ports associated with a link aggregation group. The method further includes selecting at least one, but not all, of the plurality of physical ports based on the real-time port usage data and sending a media stream to a network via the physical port.

An apparatus and method are provided for bypassing a load coil in a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) circuit. An interface is provided for making a connection with the DSL circuit and receiving a combined multichannel signal. The combined multichannel signal includes a high frequency or DSL signal and a low frequency signal or voice signal. A high pass filter is utilized to block the voice signal and route the DSL signal over a communications path to bypass the load coil in the DSL circuit. The voice signal is then routed by a low pass filter to the load coil in the DSL circuit.

Apparatus and method for automatically bypassing a load coil in a digital subscriber line circuit

A method for constructing a transmission line unit such that load coils can be selectively connected to a transmission line includes providing a transmission line section having a transmission line and a plurality of load coils electrically connected thereto, and connecting a switch terminal having a plurality of switches to the transmission line section. Each of the switches in the terminal is electrically connected to a respective load coil and is configured to selectively connect the respective load coil to the transmission line. Each switch may have a first switch position that connects the respective load coil in series with the transmission line, and a second switch position that disconnects the respective load coil from the transmission line. The load coils may be provided in an enclosure that is separate from the transmission line and the switch terminal. Related systems and terminals are also discussed.

Methods, systems, and terminals for load coil switching

An integrated filter and modular jack for filtering a voice signal delivered over a digital subscriber line between a first communication circuit and a second communication circuit where the voice signal includes analog and digital portions. The modular filter jack includes a connector for receiving the voice signal from a first communication circuit, a high pass filter, and/or a low pass filter. The high pass filter includes a capacitor operatively associated with the connector to block the analog portion of the voice signal while passing the digital portion. The low pass filter includes an inductor operatively associated with the connector to block the digital portion of the voice signal while passing the analog portion. The modular filter jack also includes a receptacle operatively associated with the high pass filter and/or the low pass filter for receiving a connection element to make electrical contact between the first and second communication circuits.
