A method is disclosed. For example, the method executed by a processor of a shared device includes receiving an identification of a user, connecting to a remote server that stores authentication modules and applications, requesting an authentication module and an application stored on the remote server that is associated with the identification of the user, storing the authentication module and the application temporarily on a non-resident memory of the shared device, and executing the application in response to authentication of the user based on log-in information that was received via the authentication module.

Secure authentication and execution of applications on shared devices

An app is supplied to user devices. The app provides shared device cards to digital wallets of the user devices. The shared device cards supply entity-specific authentication configuration settings to a shared document processing device. The shared document processing device receives user credentials and uses the entity-specific authentication configuration settings to supply (through a computerized network) the user credentials to entity-specific authentication servers specified in the entity-specific authentication configuration settings. In response, the shared document processing device receives approval/denial for a user to access the shared document processing device from the entity-specific authentication servers. Different shared device cards have different entity-specific authentication configuration settings that correspond to only one of the entity-specific authentication servers, limiting each of the shared device cards to use with a single authentication server.

Entity-specific user authentication in shared office document processing device

A user interface extension allows data entry into a marking machine user interface field from an electronic device, such as a PDA, attached to the marking machine via compatible communications ports. The marking machine includes a UI field into which data must be entered, the user lets the machine know that data will come from the electronic device, and the machine begins monitoring its communications ports for the data. The user enters or selects data to be transmitted from the electronic device, then indicates that the data is ready to be sent, at which point the electronic device transmits the data to the machine via a communications port of the electronic device.

An operator controlled interactive communication device having a display for receiving or displaying messages internally generated and received from external sources. A communication transmission interface which is selectively connected to a telephone handset connector, a computer connector and a modem to allow multiple modes of communication between an operator at a customer site and a vendor site. The communication device is reprogrammable from a remote location or through the computer connector.

Operator-controlled interactive communication device

A method is provided for printing a job in a printing system including a printer communicating with a memory section, wherein images, in the form of image data, are transmitted to the memory section, from an input source, for use in printing the job and the printing of the job is facilitated by a print processor. The method includes the steps of building a scheduling list, indicating an order in which images of the job are to be printed, and storing the scheduling list in a location that is accessible to the print processor. The method further includes the steps of retrieving an image from the input source, with the print processor, by referring to information in the stored scheduling list and providing an indication, in the scheduling list, when the image is resident in the memory section. Upon determining that the indication has been provided, a print is produced with a copy of the image. In practice, the steps of retrieving the image and determining that the indication has been provided are executed with the print processor.

Apparatus for and method of scheduling and printing a job in a printing

An image data transfer architecture in which control data and image data are isolated is provided. Bidirectional buffers isolate data buses from the control bus, thereby allowing control to be maintained by an 8-bit programmed microprocessor. The controller microprocessor does not handle image data thereby reducing complex software and support components required of prior multiple 16- and 32-bit microprocessor controller systems. Isolation is achieved by having multiple data buses handling image data at various stages of processing, such as, for example, input image data, compressed image data and output image data. Additional efficiencies are realized by eliminating the inherent delays caused when high speed image output terminals are forced to share data buses with much lower speed image input terminals.

Image data transfer architecture and method for an electronic

A method for remotely diagnosing copy quality defects. The image scanner on a system reprographics machine, or other digital copier, is used to scan a document that has a copy quality defect. Information about the problem, which may include the scanned image itself as well as machine related parameters resident in non-volatile memory, is then transmitted to a host computer that can diagnose the problem. The diagnosis and instructions for correcting the defect are thereupon given either to a service representative or transmitted back to the user, who can then correct the problem. In some instances, the problem can be fixed remotely by adjusting non-volatile memory values using the Remote Interactive Communications (RIC) network or other similar communications network between the host computer and the defective system reprographic machine.
