An injury protection device for attachment over foot rest brackets on the front legs of a wheelchair includes a generally rectangular main body having an outer case constructed of a durable soft fabric material and defining a top side and a bottom side. An interior pocket formed between the top side and bottom side of the outer case is filled with a central core of premium densified batting sandwiched between upper and lower layers of polyester batting. An arrangement of tacking stitches made from the top side to the bottom side of the outer case increase flexibility of the main body and provide bend points to promote contoured wrapping of the main body around the front leg and foot rest brackets on a wheelchair, while also stabilizing the batting material fillers. A pair of straps extend from a side of the main body and include a component of a hook and loop fastener on one side for relaseable attachment with a mating component of a hook and loop fastener on the exterior top side of the case. The main body wraps around the front leg of the wheelchair, over the foot rest brackets, and is secured by the straps.

A document transport system for transporting and selectively recirculating relatively large documents through a processing station. In accordance with this invention, a transport is provided which has a defined endless document path. A gripper bar is provided for selectively and releasably securing the leading edge of large documents, and a driven chain is also provided for supporting and moving the gripper bar at a predetermined imaging speed through an imaging station. Further, drive rollers are provided proximate the imaging station to urge documents in the document path through the imaging station at the predetermined imaging speed. The invention also includes control apparatus for halting the gripper bar at a first position downstream from the processing station to enable release of documents from the gripper bar and at a second position upstream from the processing station to enable selective insertion and retention of documents in the gripper bar. Finally, the chain also recirculates the gripper bar from the first position to the second position at a rate substantially faster than the imaging speed to enable rapid recirculation of documents for imaging and rapid insertion of a new document for imaging after release of a previously imaged document.

Document handler for transporting large documents

A heat and pressure fuser includes a thin web which is wrapped around a portion of a heated fuser roll to form a fusing area. The web contacts the fuser over a relatively short wrap angle to reduce torque required to drive the fuser roll, thereby enabling a higher process speed. Fusing efficiency is maintained by use of a biasing mechanism which increases the pressure applied to the web both the entrance and exit areas of the fuser.

A low mass fuser roll fusing system incorporates a thin web member to maintain copy sheets in biased contact with a fuser roll during a fusing operation. The copy sheets are introduced to the fusing area at an entrance nip formed by a biasing assembly. The lead edge of the copy sheet is introduced into the entrance nip by a reciprocating mecahnism which moves, the web member and the copy sheet supported thereon into the entrance nip. The web member motion is then stopped and the copy sheet progresses through the fusing cycle until the copy sheet emerges from the fusing area, at which time the web member is returned to its original position.

A compact xerographic copying or printing machine with fuser and xerographic sections placed close together, an air manifold separating the fuser and xerographic sections having plural air passages through which cooling air flows and forming one leg of a U-shaped thermal air curtain, an air baffle between the manifold and fuser sections and cooperating with the outside of the manifold to form the second leg of the air curtain so that air leaving the manifold undergoes a 180.degree. turn and passes through the second leg to a filter and the inlet of an exhaust fan.

A reproduction machine employing a gradient index fiber lens array having a mounting pin adjacent each end of the array body, a flat metallic array support surface in the machine against which the array abuts when in place in the machine, a mounting hole in the array support surface opposite each of the array mounting pins, the array mounting pins fitting snugly into the array mounting holes on assembly of the array with the support surface, and a pair of strip magnets on the side of the array facing the support surface for attracting and holding the array tightly against the support surface.

To disengage the cleaning blade from the photoreceptor of a reproduction machine and avoid cold set and damage to the photoreceptor during prolonged machine shutdowns, a bi-metal coil spring is positioned inside the fusing roll to sense fuser temperatures, with linkage coupling the spring to the cleaning blade so that when fuser temperatures fall below a preset operating temperature, the spring relaxes permitting a weighted member to retract and disengage the blade from the photoreceptor.
