The invention relates to a vehicle suspension system of the type wherein one end of a suspension is articulated to a chassis or vehicle body so that the axle end of the suspension is able to move vertically relative to the chassis through intermediate springs and, more specifically, wherein the sole means of articulation of the suspension to the chassis is through a pair of laterally spaced and longitudinally extending radius rods or bushed suspension arms and which suspension is able to flex to accommodate limited relative vertical movement of the wheels supported by the suspension.

A rear suspension particularly adapted for light and medium weight trucks and buses wherein a chassis and body are supported upon a dead axle the latter of which is of a light weight and rigid construction so as to permit a lower positioning of the chassis relative to the ground.

The invention relates to a mechanism which can be selectively operated by a wheelchair occupant to insure that the wheelchair will not roll backwards when on an upsloping ramp when the occupant releases both hands from the driving wheels and which mechanism can either be incorporated in a new wheelchair or easily added to an existing wheelchair.

The bumper system of the present invention is of a modular design wherein two substantially identical, laterally extending members are secured at the laterally innermost ends to define an integrated bumper device and wherein each module is formed of three preformed and structurally self-supporting elements adapted to be nested together and adhesively secured to form an integrated module including an elastomeric outer shell open at its rear most face, an energy absorbing hollow core element formed of a relatively rigid, though deflectable, high strength plastic material adapted to nest within the outer shell in abutting relationship with the relatively stiff transverse support beam adapted to abut against the hollow core element and enclose the open rear face of the outer shell and which beam and hollow core element have coacting faces formed to resist relative impact-induced movement therebetween.

The present invention relates to an extendible and retractable ramp device for a vehicle particularly concerned with the loading and unloading of handicapped person and which device particularly includes a power actuating mechanism disposed within the vehicle in such a way as to both protect the mechanism from damage and to provide a ramp structure conducive to non-interferring ingress and egress by handicapped passengers.

The bumper system of the present invention is of a modular design wherein two substantially identical, laterally extending members are secured at their laterally innermost ends to define an integrated bumper device and wherein each module includes an energy absorbing hollow core element formed of a relatively rigid, though deflectable, high strength plastic material mounted in front of and upon a relatively stiff transverse support beam member which is, in turn, adapted to be secured to a vehicle frame through a suitable rearwardly extending bracket structure and which energy absorbing element and support beam are encapsulated in an elastomeric outer skin layer.

The invention relates to a bumper support system for use with heavy-duty vehicles such as buses and wherein either towing or front end collision loads are transmitted through a pair of brace members in such a way as to minimize damage to the vehicle body and front suspension.
