A ventricular assist system and a method of implanting the system are disclosed. The system can have a pump, an inflow conduit, an outflow conduit, attachment ring, ring clamp, and a valvular structure. The attachment ring can be attached to the apex of the heart. The valvular structure can have a flexible, one-way valve in a rigid housing. The inflow conduit can be passed through the valvular structure and the attachment ring into a beating heart with minimal loss of blood. Devices such as slitting tool, coring knife, and/or C-clamp and use of the devices can form part of the system and method for implanting the ventricular assist device.

Attachment system, device and method

An implantable demand medication delivery assembly for delivering measured aliquots of liquid medication. The assembly includes a reservoir which stores the liquid medication to be delivered. The assembly also includes a pump which is in fluid communication with the reservoir. The pump includes a housing having an inlet port in fluid communication with the reservoir and an outlet port. Connected to the outlet port is a delivery catheter for delivering the liquid medication to a site within the patient wherein the assembly is implanted. The pump also includes a fluid passage which extends between the inlet and outlet port. A chamber is provided along the fluid passage for containing a preselected volume of liquid medication to be delivered. A resilient deformable wall on the pump extends over the chamber. A one-way valve is provided in the fluid passage between the inlet port and chamber for permitting fluid flow toward the chamber. A pressure regulated valve is provided in the fluid passage between the chamber and outlet port for selectively permitting fluid flow through the delivery catheter upon actuation of the pump. A puncturable and resealable injection site can also be part of the assembly and, when part of the assembly, is in fluid communication with the reservoir.

Implantable demand medication delivery assembly

A shunt system for implantation in the body which can be used for transferring cerebrospinal fluid is disclosed. The shunt system comprises a body having an upper and lower surface and a distal and proximal end. The body includes a central cavity through the upper surface at a first and second port. A proximal fluid flow channel extends through the proximal end of the body and opens at a third port on the upper surface. A distal fluid flow channel extends through the distal end of the body and opens at a fourth port on the upper surface. A resilient dome comprised of a self-sealing material is attached to and extends over the upper surface of the body. A first portion of the resilient dome extends over the first and third ports on the upper surface defining a first chamber. The first portion of the resilient dome cooperates upon flexing with the third port to occlude the third port. A second portion of the resilient dome extends over the second and fourth ports on the upper surface defining a second chamber. The second portion of the resilient dome cooperates upon flexing with the fourth port to occlude the fourth port.

Low profile shunt system

A catheter guide is provided which has a base having a first channel extending thereacross for receiving a catheter. An arcuately extending member extends outwardly from the base. A second channel extends along the arcuately extending member for also receiving a catheter. The first and second channels extending respectively across the base and along the arcuately extending member can be enclosed or partially enclosed for retaining a catheter within the channels and within the catheter guide.

A second portion of the resilient dome extends over the second and fourth ports on the upper surface defining a second chamber. The second portion of the resilient dome cooperates upon flexing with the fourth port to occlude the fourth port.
