A drug delivery system, which includes an aerosol generator unit, a pumping unit, a flow tube, at least one condensate collector and an aerosol transition adapter. The aerosol generator forms an aerosol from a liquid formulation, which is partially volatilized. The pumping unit supplies the liquid formulation to the aerosol generator unit and a flow tube having an inlet end in fluid communication with an outlet of the aerosol generator unit and an outlet adapted for connection to a patient interface, which supplies ventilation gas to a patient's lungs. The system also includes at least one condensate collector adapted to collect condensed liquid or liquid produced by the aerosol generator unit, and a transition adapter arranged to mix aerosol produced by the aerosol generator unit with heated air or ventilation gas and direct the mixed aerosol into the inlet end of the flow passage.

Continuous high pressure delivery system

An aerosol generation system having an aerosol generator wherein a liquid formulation is at least partially volatilized in a capillary passage and discharged from the capillary passage to form an aerosol. The aerosol generation system includes a pumping unit adapted to supply a liquid formulation to the aerosol generator; and a fluidic element located between the pumping unit and the capillary passage of the aerosol generator, wherein the fluidic element increases backpressure of the liquid formulation as the liquid formulation enters the capillary passage of the aerosol generator.

An aerosol generator such as a hand-held inhaler and method of delivering aerosol to a user inhaling on an outlet of a mouthpiece when a pressure drop is detected within the mouthpiece. A medicated fluid passing through a capillary passage is heated sufficiently to vaporize the fluid and form the aerosol by condensation of the vaporized fluid as it admixes with air. Air is supplied to the mouthpiece through an air passage which is initially closed during detection of the pressure drop. A metering chamber allows consistent delivery of precise doses of fluid to the capillary passage. The pressure drop is detected before air is supplied to the mouthpiece with the result that the aerosol can be quickly delivered to the user as the user begins to inhale on the mouthpiece. The quick delivery of aerosol provides more efficient use of the user's lung capacity.

Aerosol generator for drug formulation

A piston pump delivers precise and repeatable volumes of a fluid from a reservoir to a downstream component, and includes a piston that is rotatably and reciprocally mounted within a cylinder. The outer periphery of the piston forms an interference fit with the inner periphery of the cylinder. At least one groove is formed in the outer periphery of the piston, with the groove defining a precise volume between the piston and the cylinder, and extending in an axial direction of the piston. The cylinder includes an inlet port for providing fluid communication between a reservoir and the at least one groove when the piston is in a first position, and an exit port circumferentially spaced from the inlet port for providing fluid communication between the at least one groove and a downstream component when the first piston is rotated to a second position where the at least one groove is aligned with the exit port.

An aerosol generating device generates an aerosol having a desired particle size by passing a liquid through a flow passage heated to convert the liquid into a vapor. The flow passage includes an outlet section that controls the exit velocity of the vapor and produces an aerosol with a desired particle size. The aerosol generator can be incorporated in a hand held inhaler, and the liquid can include a medicament, which is delivered to a targeted portion of the lung using the inhaler.

A cigarette package comprises a plurality of packs, and a binder member bonded to adjoining edge faces of the packs. A releasable retainer normally holds the packs together. Upon release of the retainer, the packs can be fanned-out about axes coinciding with adjoining corners of the packs. Any number of the packs can be detached by the user for individual use.

A system is provided for packing, shipping and automated unloading of stacks of box blanks so as to minimize damage to the box blanks and facilitate the insertion of the box blanks into an automated packaging machine. A fitted shipping case, filled with stacks of box blanks and upper and lower inserts, has a plurality of holes in its upper and lower flaps for cooperating with an automated unloading machine. Inserts enclosed in the shipping case minimize damage due to shifting of the box blank stacks, provide added resistance against case failure during transit, and cooperate with the automated unloading machine to facilitate removal of the box blank stacks from the shipping case.

Shipping case and insert for automated box blank handling system

A system is provided for packing, shipping and automated unloading of stacks of box blanks so as to minimize damage to the box blanks and facilitate the insertion of the box blanks into an automated packaging machine. A fitted shipping case, filled with stacks of box blanks and upper and lower inserts, has a plurality of holes in its upper and lower flaps for cooperating with an automated unloading machine. The inserts enclosed in the shipping case minimize damage due to shifting of the box blank stacks, provide added resistance against case failure during transit, and cooperate with the automated unloading machine to faciltiate removal of the box blank stacks from the shipping case. The automated shipping case unloading machine features a stationary case gripping portion, an upper portion for opening the shipping case and removing the upper insert, and a plurality of carriage assemblies for lifting the stacks of box blanks out of the shipping case and conveniently presenting the stacks for further manual or automated handling.

Automated box blank handling system

A robotic hand has two sections disposed 90 degrees apart. One section has a bobbin core-engaging device for the purpose of lifting and handling the bobbin. This section also has a bobbin transfer means for removing the bobbin from the bobbin core engaging device. The second section of the robotic hand has a first fixed finger and a second movable finger. The fingers are used for clamping at least one lamination thickness of paper from the bobbin therebetween and holding it while the robotic hand is indexed to thread a processing machine with the paper from the bobbin. The second section also has a bobbin core removing means formed by the first fixed finger and a movable third finger. The first and third fingers cooperate for engaging the bobbin core and removing it from the machine after all of the paper has been removed therefrom.

System and method for use in delaminating bobbins of paper material

Double-sided adhesive tabs are removed from a carrier tape by passing the carrier tape around a convex nose to peel the carrier tape away from each tab. A tab inserter arm contacts the tab prior to peeling away of the carrier tape. The tab inserter arm then moves with and supports the tab during and after peeling away of the carrier tape.

System and method for use in handling and delaminating bobbins of paper

A high-speed dynamic porosimeter including a device for removing accumulated debris is disclosed. The porosimeter has an apertured surface, preferably curved, across which a web whose porosity is to be measured is drawn while suction is applied to the apertures. A pressure transducer monitors the pressure in a sensor line or chamber, which pressure varies as a function of the porosity of the web. A scraper blade scrapes debris from the apertured surface from time to time. Preferably, vacuum suction is also applied to a slot at the upstream side of the apertured surface to ensure a good seal between the web and the surface.
