The presently disclosed subject matter provides a free-energy based model of translation elongation to predict and optimize heterologous gene expression. The model and software allow for the prediction and optimization of genes for increased or decreased protein yield and for increased or decreased protein aggregation.

Modeling ribosome dynamics to optimize heterologous protein production

A convolutional encoding/decoding system encodes a data bit stream into n bit parity sets from k bit data bit sets, using code words of length L. The system is dependent upon the finding that unique data to parity tables can be generated where both data and parity bit blocks are w bits in length. The value of w=n(L-k)/(n-k). An encoded parity bit stream is subjected to Exclusive OR operation through a connection mask or masks that are dependent upon the encoding code words. The Exclusive OR operation generates syndrome symbols indicative of the presence of errors in the parity bit stream and which are employed to address a correction table. Parity correction values are derived from the correction table and are used to revise the parity bit stream, which is then decoded, using a parity to data table. A number of parity correction procedures are disclosed.

System for encoding and decoding of convolutionally encoded data

A convolutionally encoded bit stream is generated and employs a greater number of transmitted parity bits than input data bits. The encoded bit stream is decoded through the use of Exclusive OR operations upon a succession of lengths of received party bits. Non-zero Exclusive OR results determine probable parity bit corrections. Those corrections are used to alter the received, encoded parity bit stream. The altered bit stream is then converted into a data bit stream in accordance with subsequent Exclusive OR operations and a decoding table.

System and method for decoding of convolutionally encoded data

An improved computer based education system maintains rapid response to user input without limits to the number of stations. The system incorporates a dedicated processor at each user station so that the user station receives executable code as opposed to a display map. To support plural users a cluster subsystem is provided interconnected to the user stations via a high speed bidirectional communication subsystem. The cluster also includes a mass storage device, a high speed buffer, communications interface and at least one processor for serving user requests.

Cluster computer based education delivery system

A multiple access communications system links a plurality of geographically dispersed subscriber locations (each of which including a transmitter and receiver) with a central location (also including a transmitter and receiver). Multiple access communication is required in the direction from the subscriber transmitters to the central receiver. In order to maintain stability, a subscriber/transmitter which unsuccessfully transmits (due to a collision with a transmission from another subscriber) will retransmit. Multiple succeeding unsuccessful transmissions at any subscriber result at that subscriber in increasingly longer delays between successive transmissions.

Multiple access communication on a CATV reverse channel

A modem capable of achieving essentially 9600 bit per second information transfer rate through the switched telephone network. The high bit rate is achieved notwithstanding the variations in the characteristics of the switched telephone network by phase and amplitude modulating a plurality of sub-carriers at a relatively low baud rate. Correlation detection is employed at the receiver to extract or demodulate the information contained in the various sub-carriers. To allow correlation detection with orthogonal signals, each of the sub-carriers is harmonically related to a fundamental which fundamental is, however, slightly higher than the baud rate. This allows the receiver to delay correlation for a 'gap' time, which reduces the effect of transients produced by modulation and also provides greater tolerance to inter-symbol distortion. Since the fundamental of all the sub-carriers is higher than the baud rate, the receiver 'sees' orthogonal signals during the integration or correlation time which is maintained as the period of the fundamental. In addition to the information sub-carriers, a pair of unmodulated sub-carriers are also transmitted to enable the receiver to maintain the correlation interval in proper synchronization with the transmitter, and to correct for phase distortion and frequency offset.

High speed modem suitable for operating with a switched network

A time-voltage multiplexing system for addressing a particular cell or location on a gas discharge plasma panel in which a group of panel electrodes are charged to the cell voltage firing level but only one electrode of the group is allowed to remain charged for a time duration sufficient for selective discharging of the desired cell. A method and apparatus for increasing the usable range of sustaining signals for plasma panels by applying a narrow width boost pulse to the panel within a selected time immediately after the initiated sustaining discharge, including means for varying the boost pulse amplitude, width and position with respect to the sustaining discharge so that the usable sustaining signal range can be optimized for a particular plasma panel.
