Disclosed herein is an outboard motor comprising a cylinder block including a lower horizontal drive shaft housing mounting surface, and a cylinder head mounting surface extending upwardly from the drive shaft housing mounting surface, a drive shaft housing including a peripheral outer surface including an upper end, a cylinder block mounting surface at the upper end, and a portion extending rearwardly from the cylinder block mounting surface and having therein a vertically open bore located forwardly of the outer surface, and a cylinder head comprising a cylinder block mounting surface fixed to the cylinder head mounting surface and including vertically spaced first and second recesses adapted to respectively form portions of first and second combustion chambers and respectively including first and second exhaust ports, a bottom surface extending transversely rearwardly from the cylinder block mounting surface of the cylinder head, a projection extending downwardly from the bottom surface and into the bore, and including an end surface having therein an exhaust gas outlet, and an internal exhaust passage extending between the exhaust ports and the exhaust gas outlet.

Disclosed herein is a marine propulsion device comprising a propulsion unit assembly having forwardly located laterally spaced portions respectively including laterally aligned outwardly opening sockets and laterally aligned horizontally extending apertures communicating with the sockets, a king pin assembly including a portion located between the laterally extending portions and including a laterally extending bore aligned with the apertures, rubber mount assemblies respectively engaged in the sockets and having respective bores in alignment with the bore in the king pin assembly, a laterally extending bolt projecting through the bores and through the apertures in spaced relation thereto and including a head engaging one of the rubber mount assemblies, and a nut threaded on the bolt and engaging the other of the rubber mount assemblies.

Disclosed herein is a marine propulsion device comprising a lower unit including a gearcase, a driveshaft having an end extending into the gearcase, a pinion mounted on the end of the driveshaft, a propeller shaft bearing housing located within the gearcase having a forward end adjacent the pinion, a propeller shaft rotatably mounted in the propeller shaft bearing housing and having a rear end portion and a portion forwardly of the rear end portion, a propeller mounted on the rear end of the propeller shaft, a bevel gear adjacent the forward end of the propeller shaft bearing housing and engaging the pinion, the bevel gear including an annular forwardly facing thrust transferring surface, and an annular thrust transferring element mounted on the propeller shaft bearing housing and engageable with the annular forwardly facing thrust transferring surface so as to transfer thrust forwardly from the bevel gear through the thrust transferring element and to the propeller shaft bearing housing.

A marine propulsion device comprising a pivot housing adapted to be mounted on the transom of a boat for pivotal movement relative to the transom about a generally vertical steering axis, and about a generally horizontal tilt axis, the pivot housing including a rear end and an opening, a propulsion unit removably connected to the rear end of the pivot housing for pivotal movement with the pivot housing, a flexible bellows having an end communicating with the opening in the pivot housing, and a removable spring clamp for securing the end of the bellows to the pivot housing, the spring clamp functioning independently of the connection of the propulsion unit to the pivot housing and being removable from the rear end of the pivot housing when the propulsion unit is disconnected from the pivot housing.

A marine propulsion device comprising a transom unit adapted to be mounted on a marine vehicle, a swivel support pivotally mounted on the transom unit for vertical tilting movement about a horizontal tilt axis, a lower unit pivotally steerable relative to the swivel support about a vertical steering axis, and a steering mechanism for pivoting the lower unit about the steering axis. The steering mechanism comprises a first pulley rotatably mounted on the transom unit, a steering arm for rotating the first pulley, and cables for connecting the first pulley to the lower unit so that the lower unit pivots in response to rotation of the first pulley. The steering mechanism also includes a second pulley and the lower unit is pivotally steerable relative to the swivel support by rotatably mounting the second pulley on the swivel support and by fixedly attaching the lower unit to the second pulley. The cables are connected to the lower unit by connecting the cables to the second pulley. The steering mechanism also includes guides between the first pulley and the second pulley through which the cables extend for maintaining the relative distance along the cables between the first pulley and the second pulley when the swivel support pivots about the tilt axis.
