The present application provides polymer materials having the desired properties for implantation into a human or animal body, in particular, biocompatibility, biodegradability, radiopacity and mechanical properties. Methods of making such polymer materials, compositions or devices comprising such polymer materials, and uses of such polymer materials, compositions and devices are also disclosed.

The present invention relates to substantially compressible, spherical porous embolization particles, including methods of making and using the particles. Methods of using the particles include methods of embolization, in which at least one particle can be positioned in a target area of a blood vessel. The particles can also include interior pores that extend to the surface of the particles. Further, the invention relates to embolization delivery systems for the introduction of the particle into the vascular luer.

Side-chain crystallizable (SCC) polymers are useful in various medical applications. In certain applications, heavy atom containing side-chain crystallizable polymers (HACSCCP's) are particularly useful. An example of a HACSCCP is a polymer that comprises a main chain, a plurality of crystallizable side chains, and a plurality of heavy atoms attached to the polymer. In certain configurations, the heavy atoms are present in an amount that is effective to render the polymer radiopaque. A polymeric material that includes an HACSCCP may be fabricated into a medical device useful for at least partially occluding a body cavity. For example, such a medical device may be an embolotherapy product. A polymeric material that includes a SCC polymer may also be fabricated into other medical devices, such as stents.

Side-chain crystallizable polymers for medical applications

The invention relates to an expandable stent comprising circumferentially adjacent modules. The modules comprise longitudinally adjacent slide-and-lock radial elements which permit one-way sliding of the radial elements from a collapsed diameter to an expanded/deployed diameter, but inhibit radial recoil from the expanded diameter.

Inherently radiopaque side-chain crystallizable polymers (IRSCCP's) are useful in various medical applications. An example of a IRSCCP is a polymer that comprises a main chain, a plurality of crystallizable side chains, and a plurality of heavy atoms attached to the polymer, the heavy atoms being present in an amount that is effective to render the polymer radiopaque. A polymeric material that includes a IRSCCP may be fabricated into a medical device useful for at least partially occluding a body cavity. For example, such a medical device may be an embolotherapy product.

Preferred embodiments of the present invention relate to polymeric medical devices, such as stents. More particularly, the compositions disclosed herein comprise halogen-containing phenol moeities, that may be used for medical devices and other uses whereby bioresorbable and radiopaque and physicomechanical properties are desired.
