A lens system includes a first lens axially aligned with a second lens, where the first and second lenses are configured to be sequentially positioned from a pupil image of a viewer. The second lens is formed as a triplet having three cemented elements. The second lens includes a convex surface facing the first lens, and a flat surface opposing the convex surface of the second lens. The first lens includes a concave surface opposing a flat surface of the first lens; the second lens includes a concave surface and a convex surface; and the concave surface of the first lens and the concave and convex surfaces of the second lens have equal radii of curvatures.

A night vision device comprising a first detector, a beam splitter, a user optical output and a camera. The first detector is configured to detect and transmit a scene image in a first spectral band along a first optical path. The beam splitter is configured to receive the first optical path image; to output, along a second optical path, a first portion of the first optical path image, and to output, along a third optical path, a second portion of the first optical path image. The user optical output is configured to receive and output images traveling along the second optical path. The camera is configured to receive and store images traveling along the third optical path.

The present invention relates to an optical system for directing light from an image source to a viewer's eye. The system includes an image source providing an image source light; a collimator for receiving the image source light and converting the received image source light into a collimated light projected along a first optical path; and a planar diffractive relay including opposing planar surfaces longitudinally oriented substantially along a second optical path, the opposing planar surfaces terminating into an input tilted surface and an output tilted surface. The collimated light is projected along the first optical path and redirected by the input tilted surface as propagated light traveling in the second optical path. The propagated light traveling in the second optical path is redirected by the output tilted surface into a third optical path directed toward the viewer's eye.

An image intensifier tube which obviates problems with stray reflections caused by bright lights utilizes an antireflection coating in the form of an interference filter on the cathode window. An image intensifier&mdash;which is protected against laser damage utilizes a laser reflecting coating on the cathode window. The image intensifier is disposed between an optical input element and an optical utilization element. The cathode window is a glass plate having a photocathode on the side away from the optical input element and an antireflection or laser reflecting coating on the side which faces the optical input element.

Enhanced night vision goggle

A night vision device comprising a facemask housing assembly having a peripheral surface defined by a rear surface contoured to a user's face and an open front surface, the housing assembly operative for encasing a pair of optical assemblies operative for receiving light from a viewed object via a first folded optical path and via a second direct optical path, combining the light from the first and second paths, and directing the combined light to a user's eye for viewing the object; where each optical assembly detachably coupled to the housing assembly. Each optical assembly comprises an objective lens assembly for receiving and focusing visible and infrared light from a viewed object along the first folded optical path; image intensifier means responsive to the focused light from the objective lens assembly for converting the visible and infrared light to visible intensified light; and beam combining means responsive to the visible intensified light and to the direct path light for combining with one another and directing the combination to the user's eye for viewing.
