A stand-alone apparatus for cutting a web of media or tag stock into individual units for use downstream of a printer. The apparatus may cut vinyl, plastic, or RFID stock material in both back and forth directions. The apparatus comprises a housing, a carriage assembly and a movable cutter assembly. The cutter assembly is easily interchangeable and comprises a cutting element such as a wheel blade, and a pressure adjusting element for adjusting the amount of pressure applied by the cutting element to the stock material. Alternatively, the cutter assembly may be manufactured with a predetermined pressure load, but still permit an operator to adjust the depth of cut. The apparatus may be powered by and or in hardline or wireless communication with a printer, or may further comprise a computer microprocessor, memory and user interface to function wholly independent from a printer.

Stand-alone cutting apparatus

An agnostic in-line verification system and method produce finished RFID-enabled tags including labels, tags, tickets, stickers and the like. Includes is an RFID-verification base unit with an RFID-verifier that checks for verification of programmed data of the RFID-enabled tags. A feed module is positioned upstream of the RFID-verification base to receive a flow of RFID-enabled tags to be finished through RFID verification, and a collector module is downstream of the RFID-verification base unit and that receives RFID-verified tags from the RFID-verification base unit. In systems that feed a continuous stream of uncut tags, a cutter module is positioned between the verification base unit and the collector module.

Agnostic in-line verification system for finishing RFID-enabled tags

A method of reducing label waste that employs a stand-alone or printer attached apparatus for cleanly and efficiently cutting a web of media or tag stock into individual units. The apparatus used by the method may cut vinyl, plastic, or RFID stock material in both back and forth directions without sacrificing cut quality, and preferably comprises a housing, a carriage assembly and a movable cutter assembly. The cutter assembly comprises a cutting element such as a wheel blade, and a pressure adjusting element for adjusting the amount of pressure applied by the cutting element to the stock material. Alternatively, the cutter assembly may be manufactured with a predetermined pressure load, but still permit an operator to adjust the depth of cut. The method involves using the cutting apparatus to make a series of cuts as the label material is incrementally advanced through the cutting apparatus.

A combination printer and cutting device for printing upon and cutting a web of media or tag stock into individual units. The device may cut vinyl, plastic, or RFID stock material as it moves through the printer in both back and forth directions. Combination printer and cutting apparatus

Disclosed are a printer and a stacker and methods. The printer prints selectively on one or both sides of a printable web and sheets or labels are cut from the web and stacked in the stacker. The printer has an unwind mechanism that accepts and holds web rolls of different widths in center-justified relationship with respect to a print head. The printer has a spindle for mounting an ink ribbon core with a detent for center-justifying the ink-ribbon with respect to the print head.

There is disclosed a printer and a stacking system to receive and stack tags. The stacking system includes a tag stacker and a removable tag-receiving tray to facilitate transferring a stack of tags from the tag stacker to the place where the tags are to be used. A method of handling tags involves the provision of at least first and second removable trays wherein a first tray with a stack of tags can be replaced by an empty second tray so that the stacking of additional tags can recommence without waiting for the first tray to be emptied.

There is disclosed a printer including a print head and a mounting assembly for a web roll having a core. The mounting assembly can center-justify the roll with respect to the print head. The roll can be loaded simply by pushing the roll slidably onto the mounting assembly and unloaded by pulling the roll or its core slidably off the mounting assembly using one hand. In some embodiments, there is no need separately to undo any latch or to free the roll or its core from any latch other than by pushing or pulling on the roll or the core. In another embodiment, one of the stops is pivoted either to trap the core between the one stop and another stop or to enable the core to be slid onto the support to a position between the stops or to be slid off the support.

Mounting assembly and method of loading and/or unloading rolls

There is disclosed an applicator and method for applying transfers such as heat transfers, decals or labels to transfer-receptive materials. The applicator has a lightweight, T-shaped, sheet metal support or frame having an applicator station. A motorized supply roll unwind and a motorized take-up roll rewind are mounted on the support to hold supply and take-up rolls, to tension the transfer-containing web and to advance the web onto the take-up roll after the transfer has been applied at the applicator station.

There is disclosed an improved stacker, method of stacking sheets such as tags, and a stack of sheets. The stacker and the stacking method produces a stack of sheets, wherein same-size sheets are stacked so that the endmost sheet or sheets in one batch are offset or staggered to provide batch separators in a stack of sheets. The stacker includes an improved sheet feed mechanism that enables sheets having different characteristics to be fed without disassembling any portion of the mechanism or the stacker.

Web handling method and apparatus

There is disclosed a tag making and stacking system, tag stackers and stack trays. To increase tag making capacity, a wide tag web is slit into completely severed narrow tag webs which are cut apart to form tags which are immediately separated and formed into spaced apart stacks. The new system includes a printer and a stacking system to receive and stack tags. The stacking system includes a tag stacker and a removable tag-receiving tray to facilitate transferring a stack of tags from the tag stacker to the place where the tags are to be used. There are disclosed embodiments of a decurler system for tag webs used for example in printers and stackers to automatically remove curl from tag webs to promote further tag handling and better tag appearance. The decurler system may determine the current diameter of a stock roll and gradually adjust parameters such as resistance and back bend so as to compensate for increased set in tag webs as the diameter of the stock roll decreases. In an embodiment, the decurler system may include different sets of parameters for different stock roll diameters depending on the material used for the tag webs.
