An enclosure for a transducer includes a cylindrical housing and an end cap covering one end of the housing. A coupling ring engages an annular projection on the one end of the housing and a threaded portion of the end cap to hold the two elements in an abutting relationship. The housing has a threaded aperture therethrough. One of a series of different types of plumbing fittings, each having a common threaded projection, has the threaded projection received in the aperture of the housing. The end cap has a threaded aperture therethrough with one of a series of different types of electrical couplings received therein. Each of the couplings of the series has a common threaded projection which is adapted to mate with the end cap aperture. A set of stops is provided to prevent the end cap and the housing from rotating more than 360 degrees with respect to each other.

Enclosure for electrical sensor

A pressure transducer, which includes a silicon diaphragm with ion-implanted resistors in Wheatstone Bridge configuration and in insulating layer covering the diaphragm, is provided with temperature compensation for differences in thermal expansion coefficients of the layers by depositing a layer of aluminum onto the central portion of the diaphragm.

Temperature coefficient compensated pressure transducer

A physiological pressure sensing and monitoring system including a sterile throwaway pressure transducing device. The device includes a pressure transducer mounted together with a flow control valve in a housing. The device includes a first connector for connecting the device to a source of sterile solution, a second connector for electrically connecting the pressure transducer to a monitoring device, and a third connector for selectively connecting the device to a catheter inserted into a patient's circulatory system. The device, including the connectors, is made to be low cost so as to permit the entire device to be installed and discarded as a unit so as to constitute a throwaway pressure sensing and flow regulator. The pressure transducer includes a novel mounting of the strain gage beam to the isolator which has been found to effectively avoid cracking and breaking of the beam from the stress forces applied thereto in the operation of the device. In the illustrated embodiment, the lower surface of the beam is secured to the upper surface of the isolator, and the upper surface of the beam is engaged by a link connected to a displaceable diaphragm. The isolator is connected by a pair of supports to a frame such that thermally induced stresses in the frame do not affect the zero-point of the strain gage.

Disposable physiological pressure sensing system

A thin film strain gage structure (10, 110) for measuring the strain of an inflectible element (12, 112) wherein the gage is formed on a surface (15, 115) of the element and includes a sensing resistance (16, 116) and an adjusting resistance portion (21, 121). Connecting taps are formed in relationship to the resistors to permit adjustment of the adjusting resistor values by suitable connection to selected ones of the taps. The adjusting resistance is preferably disposed adjacent the sensing resistance so as to be subject to similar ambient conditions. The sensing resistance may be provided in the form of a Wheatstone bridge circuit with the adjusting resistors connected in series with two legs of the bridge. Adjustment of the adjusting resistance may be effected selectively by shorting out portions thereof or by suitably connecting to different portions thereof. In one form, the adjustment is effected so as to provide variable ratio between two portions of the resistance connected between legs of the bridge circuit.

Geometric balance adjustment of thin film strain gage sensors

A thin film strain gage structure (10,110) for measuring the strain of an inflectible element (12,112) wherein the gage is formed on a surface (15,115) of the element and includes a sensing resistance (16,116) and an adjusting resistance portion (21,121). Connecting taps are formed in relationship to the resistors to permit adjustment of the adjusting resistor values by suitable connection to selected ones of the taps. The adjusting resistance is preferably disposed adjacent the sensing resistance so as to be subject to similar ambient conditions. A thin film strain gage transducer includes temperature compensation resistances on an unstrained portion of the flexure element of the transducer. The compensation resistances are formed of the same material as the electrical leads interconnecting the strain gage resistances and also are deposited simultaneously with the electrical leads during manufacture.

Thin film strain gage apparatus with unstrained temperature compensation

An impulse ink jet mounted in an ink reservoir so as to be a self-contained writing device for X-Y and strip chart process recorders and table top graphic recorders, with the jet being associated with a length of energy absorbing conduit coiled within the reservoir so as to minimize the effects of acceleration on the ink; the conduit allowing the ink jet to achieve a flat response to the driving pulse rate through its full response range.
