The present invention provides a process for producing an alkylaromatic compound comprising the step of contacting an alkylatable aromatic compound with an alkylating agent under alkylation conditions in the presence of a alkylation catalyst comprising phosphorus and a porous crystalline inorganic oxide material having an X-ray diffraction pattern including the d-spacing maxima at 12.4&#xb1;0.25, 6.9&#xb1;0.15, 3.57&#xb1;0.07 and 3.42&#xb1;0.07 Angstrom.

Aromatics alkylation

Relatively short chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively short chain alkylating agent under sufficient reaction conditions in the presence of a catalyst comprising zeolite MCM-56. The liquid phase syntheses of ethylbenzene and cumene are particular examples of such MCM-56 catalyzed reactions.

Process for preparing short chain alkyl aromatic compounds

This invention relates the use of a catalyst composition having the structure of ZSM-5 and a matrix material, which has been manufactured by a new and useful method, for organic compound, e.g., hydrocarbon compound, conversion. The organic compound conversion processes described include catalytic cracking, gasoline hydrofinishing, toluene disproportionation, xylene isomerization, and ethylbenzene production.

The addition of antifoaming agents reduces foaming without interfering with material synthesis. Elimination of foam allows for easier charging of autoclaves and processing of synthesis mixtures.

A process is disclosed for the highly selective skeletal isomerization of linear olefin-containing organic feeds to iso-olefins at high levels of feed conversion wherein linear olefins, e.g., n-butenes, are contacted with catalyst comprising ZSM-35 under skeletal isomerization conditions which can include temperatures of 100.degree. to 750.degree. C. and linear olefin space velocities of less than 30 WHSV. The process uses a catalyst composition comprising 5 to 40 wt % ZSM-35, and 60 to 95 wt % inorganic oxide matrix, e.g., silica.

Highly selective n-olefin isomerization process using low zeolite

A process is disclosed for the highly selective skeletal isomerization of linear olefin-containing organic feeds to iso-olefins at high levels of feed conversion wherein linear olefins, e.g., n-butenes, are contacted with catalyst comprising ZSM-35 under skeletal isomerization conditions which can include temperatures of 100 to 750.degree. C. The process uses a catalyst composition comprising ZSM-35, e.g., microcrystalline ZSM-35 having a crystal size whose largest dimension is no greater than 0.5 micron and whose ratio of its second largest dimension to said largest dimension ranges from 0.5 to 1. The process exhibits enhanced catalyst cycle life where the ZSM-35 is composited with a silica-containing matrix to provide a catalyst composite having a total pore volume greater than 0.6 cc/g or 300.sup.+ angstroms pore volume of greater than 0.1 cc/g.

Highly selective n-olefin isomerization process using ZSM-35

A process is disclosed for the highly selective skeletal isomerization of linear olefin-containing organic feeds wherein linear olefins, e.g., n-butenes, are contacted with catalyst comprising ZSM-35 under isomerization conditions to produce iso-olefins of corresponding carbon number, e.g., isobutene. High iso-olefin selectivities thus can be obtained, even at relatively low temperatures and high linear olefin partial pressures.

High overall iso-olefin yields thus can be obtained, even at relatively low temperatures.

Highly selective N-olefin isomerization process using microcrystalline

There is provided a method for preparing a zeolite other than ZSM-5 from a reaction mixture comprising a mixed organic directing agent which is a combination of (a) an organic nitrogen containing compound such as an amine or a quaternary ammonium compound and (b) an alcohol and/or diol. Particular zeolites synthesized by this method include ZSM-22 and ZSM-23. The use of an alcohol or a diol may inhibit the coformation of ZSM-5. Especially when used to prepare ZSM-23, this method enables the preparation of more catalytically active ZSM-23 of reduced crystallite size and also enables the use of lower crystallization temperatures. Particular mixed organic directing agents for the preparation of ZSM-23 are combinations of (a) pyrrolidine and (b) ethanol or ethylene glycol. Other factors which enhance the activity of ZSM-23 include the use of the following in the reaction mixtures for preparing ZSM-23: potassium ions; precipitated silica particles as sources of silica; and spray dried precipitated silica/alumina particles as sources of silica and alumina. The catalytic stability of alumina bound ZSM-23 catalysts is especially enhanced by steaming. Particular reactions which can be catalyzed by ZSM-23 made according to methods described herein include the dealkylation of ethylbenzene and the alkylation of benzene with ethylene.
