A document capable of providing information under the application of heat, which comprises a first support having a first surface and a second surface, the first surface bearing an information area including a visible principal image, and at least one of said first support or second support bearing at least one localized coating comprising a substantially colorless, non-pressure sensitive, heat-activatable chromogenic composition capable of producing a first color under the application of heat, the chromogenic composition comprising a chromogenic compound and a color developer. The chromogenic compound and the color developer are substantially colorless solids in physical contact prior to reaction, but which can chemically react to produce a visible colored image by application of heat at temperatures above room temperature. The information area is substantially free of chromogenic compounds, and free of color developers capable of reacting with chromogenic compounds to produce a visible colored image by application of heat.

Heat-sensitive chromogenic system

A tamper evident document for use with an impact printer having an inked ribbon, which document comprises, a substrate having a first surface and a second surface, the first surface being adapted to receive a principal visible colored image by transfer from the inked ribbon of an impact printer and being substantially free from color forming compositions which react to form visible colored images, the second surface being coated with a self-contained pressure-sensitive chromogenic composition capable of reacting to form a visible colored mirror image on the second surface, the substrate being sufficiently translucent such that the second visible colored mirror image could be viewed from the first surface, if said second visible image were not totally blocked by said principal visible image, so as to determine whether the principal and second visible colored mirror images are in register.

Pressure-sensitive tamper evident system

A carrier assembly including a label, coupon, booklet or the like for application to a container or other receiver which has an elongated flexible carrier web having opposed faces, one face being equipped with adhesive, the other face being equipped with release material, and a plurality of longitudinally spaced web-units attached to the one face, the carrier web being convolutely wound with the space between the web-units exposing said adhesive. Also disclosed is the method of preparing and the method of using wherein the wound roll is unwound and one web-units sequentially dispensed as by severing a segment from the carrier web and applying the same to a receiver.

Linerless adhesive-equipped carrier assembly and method

An ultraviolet radiation monitoring kit comprising at least one first substrate and at least one second substrate, the second substrate being capable of being closely associated with at least one first substrate, the first substrate having an indicator area comprising a chromogenic composition, the chromogenic composition comprising (a) the colored reaction product of a chromogen and a color developer, the colored reaction product being capable of changing color when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, or (b) a substantially colorless mixture of a chromogen and a color developer capable of reacting to form color when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, the second substrate bearing a reference color chart, the reference color chart comprising at least one reference color corresponding to time exposure to ultraviolet radiation, such that comparison of the color developed by the chromogenic composition upon exposure to ultraviolet light with a reference color provides an indication of the time and degree of exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Ultraviolet radiation monitoring device and use thereof

A label assembly includes a label with a removable multi-ply insert attached thereto by at least one fastening strip. The label has an adhesive applied to one of its sides for attaching the label assembly to an article. In two embodiments, the label assembly has a pair of perforated fastening strips for removably coupling the multi-ply insert to the label, while the label remains attached to the article. In another embodiment, one edge of the top ply of the insert is secured to the label by a single fastening strip, while the other edge of the top ply of the insert extends outwardly from the remaining plies of the insert and is secured directly to the label. In yet another embodiment, a single large fastening strip overlies substantially the entire top ply of the insert, and extends outwardly from three of the peripheral edges of the insert to engage the label for peelably securing the insert to the label by a pressure-sensitive adhesive. These label assemblies are manufactured in a continuous, on-line manner to produce a large roll of label assemblies.

A label-equipped web method wherein the label is die-cut from base stock constituting the sheet and held in place by a pressure-sensitive adhesive-equipped release liner, the web constituting the release liner having a pattern of coatings thereon including a pattern of release material applied at a first site so as to leave bands uncoated and thereafter coated at a second site with pressure-sensitive adhesive so as to permanently attach the liner to the sheet in the band area to resist shearing forces tending to dislodge the liner.

Label-equipped web method

A hidden entry system comprises a document having a first substrate bearing a localized latent image spaced apart from a removable image-developing device comprising a second substrate having a first surface and a second surface, the first surface of the second substrate bearing a chromogenic composition comprising an image-forming co-reactant, the image-forming co-reactant being a chromogen or a color developer, the second surface of the second substrate bearing a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The image developing device is in superposed relation with the first substrate with the pressure sensitive coating being releasably attached to the first substrate.

A label-equipped web method wherein the label is die-cut from base stock constituting the sheet and held in place by a pressure-sensitive adhesive-equipped release liner, the web patch constituting the release liner having a pattern of coatings thereon including a first pattern of release material so as to leave one or two uncoated edge bands and thereafter overcoated with pressure-sensitive adhesive so as to permanently attach the liner to the sheet in the band area to resist shearing forces tending to dislodge the liner.

Method of making and using a label-equipped form

A method of making a label-equipped sheet and product in which an elongated release liner has one face thereof equipped with pressure sensitive adhesive and adhered to one surface of a base stock web, the base stock web being diecut in a closed perimeter within the confines of the release liner, the diecutting including a generally linear segment which is adjacent an area of the release liner free of release material to provide a longitudinally-extending liner band adhesively secured to the web.
