A system for sharpening a tool bit in a fixed geometry has a base with a support platform and guide rod attached to and extending from the platform; a fixture including a longitudinal extending body with a plurality of linear bore holes extending through a transverse width of the fixture; and a tool bit support assembly removeably connected to the fixture for receiving the tool bit. In operation, the system provides for a user to insert the guide rod through one of the bore holes in the plurality and to position the tool bit in a fixed orientation for sharpening a free end of the tool bit. By forming the fixture with a specific number of bore holes, each positioned at a precise angle within the fixture, the system provides for the sharpening of the tool bit in a fixed geometry in a way that is consistent, precise, and repeatable.

A control system for use in conjunction with a primary power system and operable to control a pneumatically powered hand-held tool broadly comprises an air delivery assembly operable to communicate with a pressurized air source; a control assembly including an exhaust line from the primary power system and to the control assembly, a spool valve in fluid communication with the supply line and the exhaust line, and a control line in fluid communication with the spool valve and the hand-held tool; a tool assembly comprising the hand-held tool for performing delicate hand working operations; and a housing for at least partial storage of the air delivery assembly and the control assembly. The primary power system and the control system operate in conjunction with each other to both power and precisely control a pneumatically powered hand-held tool.

An improved impact power tool for carving and engraving an article comprises an air delivery system operable to communicate with a pressurized air source; a drive assembly operable to receive air from the pressurized air source via the air delivery system; a hand held device in driven communication with the drive assembly; and a housing for storage of the air delivery system and drive assembly. The tool includes an improved valve design, a throttle bias valve, and an air storage tank housed within the housing, and an improved housing construction. The improved valve design and air storage tank enable greater stroke speeds of a work tool over a wider power range while also improving the crispness and speed of the impact reaction time over the entire range. The throttle bias valve is in communication with an additional exhaust path, such that the bias valve allows improved control of the hand held device and improved operation over a wider range of air pressures.

A handheld pneumatic power tool apparatus is provided for use with a supply of pressurized air. The apparatus includes a handpiece and a pressure regulator assembly for regulating the pressure of air supplied to the handpiece. The handpiece includes a cylinder having first and second ends, an anvil positioned at the first end of the cylinder, and a piston received in the cylinder for bi-directional oscillating movement between the ends. The pressure regulator assembly includes a valve for controlling air flow to the handpiece, a pressure sensing element for sensing the pressure of the air supplied to the handpiece and for automatically controlling the valve in response to the sensed pressure, a compression spring for biasing the pressure sensing element against the pressure of the air supplied to the handpiece, and a foot pedal operatively connected to the compression spring for adjusting the force exerted by the spring on the pressure sensing element in order to adjust the regulated pressure of the supplied air.

An impact power tool for use in supporting a tool tip for hand-working operations comprises a body presenting a bore and having first and second ends. A piston is received within the bore and is shiftable relative to the body, and an anvil is received within the bore at a first end of the body and is shiftable relative to the body along the longitudinal axis thereof. The anvil includes a recess extending in a direction substantially parallel with the axis of the bore so as to define a receptacle in the anvil adjacent the first end of the bore. A tool carrier block is provided which is shaped for receipt in the recess of the anvil and which includes a set screw for permitting attachment of the carrier block to a tool tip to be supported on the impact power tool. The carrier block is retained in the anvil by friction-fit engagement sufficient to retain the carrier block in the receptacle and to permit manual removal of the carrier block. Further, the axial position of the anvil relative to the bore is fixed by a transverse member interposed between the anvil and the body. The transverse member is rigidly supported on the anvil and is resiliently supported on the body so that the anvil is capable of limited axial movement relative to the body.

A tool sharpening or finishing machine is provided having an improved, low cost, laterally shiftable and tiltable tool-supporting table adjacent a rotatable, abrasive wheel. The table is supported for back-and-forth shifting by a roller bearing assembly having a plurality of spaced apart and resiliently biased together bearings connected to a base, with a shiftable element received between the bearings and connected to the table. The base is preferably slotted between the spaced bearings to form a structural spring within the base, and one of the bearings is eccentrically mounted for selective variation of the effective distance between the bearings, so that the bearing assembly can be properly preloaded without the need for precision manufacture of the assembly components. The table is supported for tilting movement relative to the grinding wheel surface by means of an upright, pivotal plate which has an associated spring-loaded counterbalancing mechanism urging the table upwardly and permitting accurate table settings.
