An apparatus for forming a blended yarn from a plurality of yarn strands is disclosed, and wherein the yarns are advanced to contact the surface of a feed roll in a side by side arrangement. A guide roll for each of the yarn strands is positioned upstream of the feed roll, and one or more of the guide rolls has a circumferential configuration which serves to repeatedly move the advancing yarn strands relative to each other so that the strands laterally cross each other on the surface of the feed roll in a predetermined pattern.

Apparatus and method for blending yarn strands

An apparatus and method for continuously winding a high speed running yarn are provided, and wherein empty bobbins are serially delivered to a winding position and the full bobbins are laterally moved from the winding position to a doffing position. An automatic yarn changeover mechanism is provided for transferring the running yarn from the full bobbin onto an empty bobbin which is brought to the winding position, and such that there is no yarn stoppage or loss of yarn during the changeover procedure. As part of the changeover procedure, the yarn is severed, with the severed end running onto the rotating full bobbin. In order to prevent this severed yarn end from contacting and becoming entangled in the closely adjacent empty bobbin then being wound at the winding position, there is provided air jet means which is operative during the changeover procedure to direct an airstream onto the surface of the rotating full bobbin to restrain the outward radial movement of the severed yarn end, with the airstream continuing until the full bobbin ceases to rotate.

Yarn winding apparatus and method

Traversing device in a thread winding apparatus having a housing encircling a rotatably driven cam roller which operates a traversing thread guide means mounted to project outwardly through a traverse slot or opening in the housing, with means to generate and direct an air stream to flow outwardly from said traverse slot in order to prevent the thread being wound or broken filaments thereof from entering the housing and being wrapped around the cam roller or interfering with the traversing thread guide.
