&agr;,&bgr;,&bgr;-Trifluorostyrene and derivatives thereof synthesized in two steps from 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethylene. In the first step, 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethylene is reacted with a base, a metal salt such as zinc chloride and an optionally amine to form a trifluorovinyl metal complex. In the second step, the trifluorostyrene or derivative is obtained by reacting the trifluorovinyl metal complex with an aryl transfer agent such as, for example, an aryl triflate or an aryl halide, in the presence of a metal catalyst and optionally a coordinating ligand. Both steps may be carried out in one reactor.

Synthesis of &agr;, &bgr;, &bgr;-trifluorostyrene via in-situ formation of trifluorovinyl metal halide

The process of direct synthesis of trifluoromethyl copper and trifluoromethyl aromatics, both intermediate reagents useful in direct synthesis of certain perfluoroalkyl compounds. The process involves a direct reaction between on the one hand an aromatic halide and a difluorodihalomethane and on the other hand copper and a difluorodihalomethane.

Method of preparation of trifluoromethyl copper and trifluoromethyl

The basic single step process for preparing trifluoromethyl organocadmium and zinc compounds from difluorodihalomethane is disclosed. The prepared trifluoromethyl compound may be used to add the trifluoromethyl to a variety of organic structures in a trifluoromethylating reaction. Among the structures included are aromatic compounds, halo olefins, allylic compounds, acetylenic compounds and acyl halides.

Method of preparation of compounds containing perfluoroalkyl groups

The prepared trifluoromethyl compound may be used to add the trifluoromethyl to a variety of organic structures in a trifluoromethylating reaction. Fluorine-containing phosphonates and phosphonic acids are described. The method of preparation is a reaction of trialkylphosphites with dihalodifluoromethanes or a reaction of the salts of dialkylphosphites with halodifluoromethylphosphonates. The corresponding phosphonic acids are prepared by hydrolysis of the phosphonates.
