A filter assembly for mounting on a conventional or ceiling fan blade includes a fan blade mount, a filter mount, and an air filter. The fan blade mount has a blade mount slot formed therein that is dimensioned to slidably engage a ceiling fan blade. The filter mount is coupled to the fan blade mount and has at least a portion thereof that is disposed substantially perpendicular thereto. The air filter is coupled to the filter mount and extends a distance therefrom in a direction perpendicular to at least a portion of the fan blade mount slot.

A compact flashlight is configured such that it can be coupled to a key ring, as well as various other devices, and includes a locking mechanism that inhibits accidental opening and detachment from the ring or other device. The compact flashlight is further configured to allow the flashlight to be pointed in numerous directions while resting on a surface, and further allows for ease of battery replacement. The compact flashlight additionally includes a plurality of switches that are easy to operate, and includes both a momentary switch and an on-off switch.

A passive illuminator that is configured to releasably engage the outer peripheral surface of a household component includes a main body having first and second ends, and inner and outer peripheral surfaces. The main body is configured such that the first and second ends are movable with respect to one another upon application of an external force to the main body. When the external force is not applied the first and second ends are disposed at least proximate one another, and the main body inner peripheral surface is dimensioned to releasably engage an outer peripheral surface of the household component.

A device for stopping a moving vehicle is provided. The device consists of a strip containing a plurality of spikes which are attached to a common cable. When a vehicle rolls over the strip, the spikes pierce the vehicle's tire and expand inside the tire, causing the spikes to become securely lodged inside. The forward motion of the vehicle pulls the attached cable forward, causing the cable to entwine the axle of the vehicle's wheel. The spinning of the wheels causes the cable to become taut, which in turn causes the vehicle to skid to a stop.

A dual-beam lantern-flashlight capable of emitting two light beams, including an elongated flashlight body having a front end and a rear end, a headlamp mounted in the front end of the body and disposed to emit a beam of light in a forward direction from the front end, a lantern body coupled to the flashlight body, the lantern body having a bottom end, and a lantern lamp mounted in said bottom end of said lantern body and disposed to emit a beam of light generally downwardly and normally relative to the beam of light emitted by said headlamp. The headlamp and lantern lamp when in use together create a single large area of continuous light around the feet and forward of the user.

A measurement marking mechanism that can be coupled to a tape measure includes a case and a marker. The marker is coupled to the case and is moveable. When the case is coupled to the tape measure, the marker is moveable relative to the tape measure in a direction that is substantially perpendicular to the direction that the measurement tape is extracted from the tape measure, and in a plane that substantially parallel with, or substantially perpendicular to, the plane that the measurement tape is extracted from the tape measure. The marking mechanism may also be formed as part of a tape measure during the manufacturing process.

A book light having a pair of arms or a 'U' bracket pivotally attached to a head at one end and a body at the other end. In the case of the 'U' bracket, the head is attached by a ball joint and has infinite ranges of motion. The body has a clip for attachment to a book or a bed frame, an on/off switch, a plug for receiving an AC adapter, and a battery compartment. The head has a light assembly and a fluorescent light bulb for illuminating a book. A wire or conductive strip running along, and guided by wire guides, each of the arms provides an electrical connection between the light assembly and the source of power. The pivoting of the head and the body allow them to be pivoted for storage in the space between the arms or so that the book light be used as a free-standing desk lamp. Optionally, the two arms or the 'U' bracket may be connected to a pivot arm which swivels about the body to increase the degrees of freedom and the flexibility of the light.

A water-resistant clock with a plurality of double suction cups by which it may be retained on a smooth surface. A crystal is attached to the front casing with a front gasket. Three arms extend from the clock's casing, spaced apart on the clock's circumference at equal 120 degree angles. On the rear side of each arm is a double suction cup, by which the clock may be attached to a wall. Pull tabs on each suction cup make it easier to remove the suction cups, and thereby the clock, from the surface to which it is attached. The clock's rear casing is fastened to the front casing in a watertight manner. A back cover fits against a protruding rear circular gasket between the back cover and the rear casing to form a watertight seal. The rear gasket is partially covered by three outwardly extending arcuate prongs, which engage three inwardly extending arcuate prongs on the back cover, when the back cover is closed, creating a water-resistant seal that protects the clockworks. The suction cups should be made of rubber or flexible plastic such as polyvinyl chloride or an injection-molded elastomer, and be capable of retaining the clock on a smooth flat vertical surface for an extended period of time, as in a shower stall.
