Current temperatures for an enclosure of a media handling device are monitored and managed using threshold temperature values. When a current temperature deviates below a threshold temperature value, commands are sent to modules of the device to start and idle their motors causing heat to be generated from current flowing to the motors. The heat radiates within the enclosure raising the current temperature. When the current temperature reaches a second threshold temperature value for the enclosure, second commands are sent to the modules of the device to stop idling their motors causing heat within the enclosure to dissipate and lowering the current temperature for the enclosure.

Device enclosure temperature control

A multi-pixel display panel can display an image that includes an informational element. A multi-element backlight panel can backlight the display panel. A controller coupled to the display panel and the backlight panel can control the backlight panel to illuminate the informational element more brightly or more dimly than portions of the image away from the informational element. In some examples, the controller can illuminate personal information more dimly than portions of the image away from the personal information, which can provide privacy for a user. In some examples, the controller can illuminate a prompt for a user action more brightly than portions of the image away from the prompt, which can call attention of the user to the prompt. In some examples, the controller can adjust an illumination level of at least a portion of the backlight panel in response to a sensed ambient light level.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for locating a display of a Self-Service Terminal (SST) at a desired viewing angle. The apparatus comprises a display support that supports a display of a Self-Service Terminal (SST) and that is pivotably mounted at an edge region thereof to the terminal; a variable length member that connects a further region of the display support to the terminal; and a motor that selectively varies the length of the member, the edge region and further region being spaced apart to tilt the display at a viewing angle responsive to the length of the variable length member.
