Methods of drying ink using microwaves includes heating deposited ink droplets by passing a microwave applicator over them. In another embodiment, a swath of ink droplets is deposited with a plurality of sequential passes of an ink jet print head, and the deposited drops are dried between passes.

Microwave energy ink drying method

A printer includes a rasterized laser illumination system. The printer may be an ink jet type and the application of laser light may be controlled digitally along with the ink droplet ejection. The media may be cut or etched with the laser, or heat may be applied to previously deposited ink.
