A cooling system is provided for an electric motor having control circuitry and including a motor housing surrounding the motor. The motor drives at least one radial fan at one end thereof for directing airflow through the motor housing across the motor. A fan housing encloses the cooling fan and defines a diverter chamber radially outboard of the fan that is sized to divert a portion of the airflow away from the electric motor. A control box contains the control circuitry and includes a base having a heat sink for contacting the control circuitry. The base defines a plenum in communication with the diverter chamber and a channel in communication with the plenum and the heat sink to direct the diverted airflow across the heat sink.

A switch for an electric motor has a switch arm comprising a lever and an arc barrier formed integrally with the lever. The switch has first and second electrical contacts. The switch arm and second electrical contact are moveable relative to the first contact between an open position and a closed position. The arc barrier is positioned adjacent the first contact in the closed position. The arc barrier limits the risk of electrical arcing associated with the electrical contacts. The switch is suitable for use in an electric induction motor. For example, the switch can be adapted to de-energize auxiliary start windings when an electric induction motor is up to speed and/or to provide a signal indicating the motor is operating.

A mounting structure for mounting a device to an electric motor having an output shaft has a body including an opening for receiving the output shaft through the body. A plurality of connector elements are supported by the body. The mounting structure includes a plurality of threaded inserts. Each of these inserts is inserted in one of the connector elements for receiving a fastener to connect the body to the motor. Each connector element is sized and shaped for alternatively receiving an insert in at least two, non-coincident locations. The mounting structure can be combined with an electric motor to produce an electric motor assembly that can be mounted on a pump or other device so the device is powered by the motor.

A motor drive for an electric motor of a variable fluid circulating system includes a processing module and a power module. The processing module receives a signal profile and generates a control signal based on the signal profile. A power module generates a carrier signal based on the control signal and a direct current (DC) voltage. The power module pulse width modulates the carrier signal to generate a drive signal in the electric motor that matches the signal profile. The power module powers the electric motor based on the drive signal to adjust injection of a fluid into a reservoir.

A thermal conductor for a heat-generating liquid pump system of a pool containing liquid and including a pipe. The conductor is adapted for conducting heat from the pump system to liquid circulated by the pump system. The conductor includes a body in thermal communication with a heat generating portion of the pump system and in thermal communication with only an outside surface of the pipe and not in direct contact with the liquid.

A motor end bell assembly includes an end bell having an opening in a face of the end bell for accessing terminals of the motor. An additional aperture in the end bell facilitates passage of a power cord through the end bell. A cover at least partially closes the opening and is formed as a single piece of material. The cover includes a tab for at least partially closing the aperture.

An impeller assembly includes a molded impeller and an insert within the impeller. The insert includes an unthreaded sleeve and a shoulder adjacent the sleeve for locating the impeller and the insert during manufacturing and installation. Methods of manufacturing and installing are also disclosed.

A deep well submersible pump has a pump housing containing an electric motor. The motor is radially spaced from the pump housing interior surface defining an annular channel through the pump housing from an inlet opening to an outlet opening of the housing. The motor is mounted on a cowling that has an exterior surface. A plurality of deswirler blades extend between the pump housing interior surface and the cowling exterior surface. As the deswirler blades extend through the housing interior, a spacing between the-cowling exterior surface and the housing interior surface expands radially. The cowling exterior surface and the pump housing interior surface define an annular liquid flow path that is first directed radially outward from the inlet opening and then curves around the cowling and is directed axially through the deswirler blades to the annular channel between the motor and the pump housing interior surface. An impeller mounted on the motor shaft has axially spaced inner and outer disks with a plurality of radiating vanes between the disks. The outer disk has a center hole with an annular rim surface in sealing engagement with the inlet cap and a peripheral surface in sealing engagement with the inlet cap. The impeller inner disk has a peripheral surface in sealing engagement with the cowling. Rotation of the impeller draws liquid through the inlet cap opening and pushes the liquid through the pump flow path.

An end shield for an electric motor is provided with an integrally formed component compartment. The component compartment is mounted on a peripheral edge of the end shield. The component compartment has a hollow interior volume and a motor component used for controlling operation of the motor is received in the component compartment. The motor component is housed and protected in the component compartment.

A furnace blower has an inexpensive and compact coaxially arranged simplified construction that includes an electric motor having a shell with radially projecting fins that is press-fit into a cylindrical blower housing and a combustion tube that is also press-fit into the blower housing where the interior of a combustion tube is positioned in close proximity to a fan on the motor shaft. The press-fit assembly of the motor into the blower housing as well as the combustion tube into the blower housing simplifies the construction of the furnace blower and reduces its manufacturing costs. The furnace blower is also smaller than prior art furnace blowers which enables it to be readily retrofit into conventional furnaces in place of prior art furnace blowers.

An induction motor system operable in a wet environment comprises an induction motor and an apparatus for controlling the speed of the motor. The motor is adapted to be coupled to an AC source for supplying an AC signal. The motor includes a rotor having rotor laminations. The reflected rotor resistance over reflected rotor reactance ratio of the motor is adjusted to be greater than one. The controlling apparatus includes a switching device, user controls, controller means and isolation means. The switching device is connected in series with the motor and is operative in either a high impedance state wherein significant current flow through the motor is prevented or a low impedance state wherein current flow through the motor is substantially undisturbed. The user controls provide motor speed input signals. The controller means receives the motor speed input signals from the user controls, and switches the switching device between its low and high impedance states in a predetermined sequence for inducing a phase angle delay in the AC signal. The isolation means electrically isolates the controller means from the AC source and includes coupling means for optically coupling the switching device to the controller means.

A method of assembling an electric motor by building the motor in one direction without the need to turn the motor end over end during the assembly process. The method includes providing a first housing section having motor control components preinstalled therein, and a shaft opening therein for the motor shaft; inserting the stator in the first housing section; temporarily inserting a jig into the stator to position the stator in the first housing section, and injecting a settable material between the stator and the first housing section to secure the stator within the first housing section. After the stator is secured, the jig is removed, and a rotor positioned in the stator, a fan is installed on the rotor, and a second housing section is interfit with the first housing section and the first and second housing sections are secured together.

Method of assembling an electric motor

A blower motor housing for a fuel burner has a generally 'cup' shaped configuration with an open end that communicates with an opening in a side wall of a burner housing. The motor housing is mounted to the burner housing with the open end in register with the opening in the burner housing, thereby joining the interior of the motor housing with the interior of the burner housing. The electric motor is mounted within the motor housing with at least a portion of the stator winding extending axially beyond the open end of the motor housing and into the interior of the burner housing. A squirrel cage blower wheel is mounted to the motor shaft substantially concentric with the stator winding and extends at least partially along the axial length of the stator winding so that, during operation of the burner, cool intake air is moved past the stator winding as it is drawn into the blower wheel.

A dynamoelectric machine has a rotatable shaft which extends through and is exposed in an end shield to secure a part such as an impeller thereto. To secure the shaft against rotation for attachment of the part thereto, the shaft and end shield are provided with axially aligned bores through which a rod may be journaled.
