A mounting assembly adapted for attachment to a surface of a rotatable driving member of a cutting tool machine and adapted for receiving a cutting tool includes: a base having a bottom portion for attachment to the surface of the rotatable driving member and a front portion that defines a bore; and a tool holder configured for mounting to the base. The tool holder includes: a leading head region having a forward face that defines an aperture for receiving the cutting tool; a trailing shank region with a central longitudinal axis and having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end; and a mediate region intermediate of and contiguous with the leading head region and the trailing shank region. The trailing shank region includes an anti-rotation portion and a mounting retention portion.

Tool holder and base mounting assembly

A cutting tool mounting assembly adapted for receiving a cutting tool includes a base having a bottom portion and a front portion that defines a receptacle having an inner wall and a bushing configured for receipt in the receptacle of the base. The bushing includes: a forward face defining an aperture for receiving the cutting tool; a shoulder generally opposite the forward face, the shoulder configured for cooperating with the front portion of the base; and a shank portion extending rearward from the shoulder, the shank portion having an outer surface configured for cooperating with the inner wall of the receptacle. A first elastomeric layer is positioned between the shoulder of the bushing and the front portion of the base and a second elastomeric layer is positioned between the outer surface of the shank portion and the inner wall of the receptacle.

A cutting bit retention assembly () that includes a cutting bit holder (), which receives a cutting bit () and has shank () that extends into a bore () in a support (). The shank section () of the cutting bit holder () presents a surface () defined by a notch () that selectively cooperates with a retention pin (). A transverse bore () in the support () carries the retention pin (). The retention pin () is selectively movable to any one of several positions. One position is a non-retaining position wherein the retention pin () does not engage the notch surface (). Another position is a retaining position in which the retention pin () engages the notch surface () to urge the cutting bit holder into the cutting bit holder bore (). Still another position is an ejecting position in which the retention pin () engages the notch surface () to urge the cutting bit holder () out of the cutting bit holder bore ().

A cutting tool holder-base assembly () has a base (). The base () is adapted to attach to a surface () of a rotatable driving member (). The tool holder-base assembly () includes a cutting tool holder () with head region () containing a cutting tool bore (), and a shank region () with a distal end (). The shank region () has an alignment notch () presenting an alignment surface () at the distal end (). The assembly () further has a base (), which contains a tool holder bore () and a transverse passage () intersecting the tool holder bore (). There is an elongate pin () in the transverse passage (). The elongate pin () has an exposed portion () thereof passing through the tool holder bore () wherein the cutting tool holder () is able to enter completely the tool holder bore () of the base () when the alignment surface () is in alignment with the exposed portion () of the elongate pin ().

Rotatable cutting tool-tool holder-base assembly

A block and non-rotating wear sleeve for holding a cutting tool used with mining and construction is disclosed. A key is used to intersect with notches in the wear sleeve and block at a rear face of the wear sleeve and block to prevent rotational movement between the wear sleeve and block. Locating the key and notches at the rear face provides an easily manufactured anti-rotation means which is also sheltered from the most of the abrasion experienced by the block and wear sleeve.

A cutting tool assembly mounted on a rotating drum and having a base block, a wear sleeve and a cutting bit wherein a seal is located between the base block and wear sleeve is disclosed. A fluid passage spans from the rotating drum to a discharge location between the wear sleeve and the shank of the cutting bit. The fluid lubricates the shank of the cutting bit and bore of the wear sleeve allowing the cutting bit to rotate freely within the wear sleeve. Rotation of the cutting bit promotes even wear and long life of the bit.

A road milling drum assembly that is for use with a road milling machine. The road milling drum includes a core portion carrying a first road planing bit assembly wherein the core portion detachably connects to the road milling machine. The first road planing bit assembly has a first milling width. The assembly further including one of the following components selected from the group of: (1) a protective cover that detachably connects to the core portion and the road milling machine; or (2) a milling extension segment carrying a second road planing bit assembly wherein the milling extension segment detachably connects to the core portion and the road milling machine. The second road planing bit assembly has a second milling width wherein the road milling drum has a milling width equal to the sum of the first milling width and the second milling width.

A roof bit drill has a central shaft with a front end and a back end. The drill also has a base secured about the central shaft proximate to the front end, wherein the base has clearance channels extending axially therethrough. At least one cutting element is arranged on the base in a convex cutting pattern to permit loosened material to be evacuated. The roof bit drill may further include a drill depth locator to identify when the drill has been advanced within a mine roof to a predetermined depth. A method for using the roof drill bit is also disclosed herein.

A cutting tool assembly ( ) includes a support block ( ), a replaceable spray nozzle housing, a liquid seal tight insert ring and first and second fluid passages. The first fluid and second fluid passage has an axis and extends between the concealable outer surface portion ( ) and a first ( ) surface portion of the support block. The first and second fluid passages are substantially straight between first and second outer surfaces so as to permit a drill to be inserted into first and second fluid passage for cleaning. The cutting tool assembly ( ) also includes an exterior replaceable spray nozzle housing ( ) on the support block having a cylindrical inlet portion ( ) that extends into the first fluid passage such that the spray nozzle housing ( ) is in fluid communication with the first fluid passage. A separate insert ring independent of a tool holding wear protective sleeve is press fit into the rear portion of the support block and forms an annular flow chamber section of the first fluid passage. The insert ring may be readily removed in the field to permit cleaning of the first fluid passage.
