Disclosed is an audio follow video mixer incorporating a manual cross fade learn feature. According to the invention, an operator may set the mixer so that a crossfade operation performed manually is stored in memory. The stored crossfade operation can thereafter be recalled and performed in an AUTO mode and an EDITOR mode. Also disclosed are LED indicators to visually indicate the status of the mixer, including which channel is active.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for configuring an audio follow video mixer used to process audio signals input from several multi-channel devices, such as VTRs. Input modules of the audio follow video mixer include a selection button for choosing the number of a VTR coupled to the mixer module and an LED display for visually indicating the VTR number to a user. The input modules also include buttons for selecting the audio channel of the selected VTR, as well as the preview bus for the selected audio channel.

Disclosed is a device which provides a logic signal that indicates a true 'on air' event during broadcast production. Each audio channel input from a microphone to a mixing console is coupled to a circuit arrangement which determines whether a mute switch is selected, a fader is set for full attenuation, or an input switch is deselected. If none of these events have occurred a signal is provided to an external display which is optically isolated from the mixing console. This signal controls a tally which indicates to a user that the corresponding input channel, for example, from a microphone is active.

Disclosed is a mixer console which is capable of providing a mix-minus audio monitor signal to several locations from which an input audio signal is provided. The mix-minus audio signal consists of the sum of all active input channels except for the input channel to which the mix-minus audio signal is provided. Thus, the mix-minus signal permits monitoring without feedback or echo effects.
