A system for measuring movement of an object includes a source of light for emitting a beam; an object for receiving the beam from the source and reflecting the beam; and a reflective optic for receiving the beam reflected from the object and again reflecting the beam at a first angle. The system also includes a receiver for receiving the reflected beam from the reflective optic. When the object moves in distance, the reflective optic reflects the beam at a second angle. The reflective optic may be replaced by an equivalent refractive optic(s). The receiver measures movement of the object, based on a difference between the first angle and the second angle. The reflective optic may include a cylindrical reflective optic, or a spherical reflective optic. The refractive optic(s) may include a plano hemispheric refractive optic, or a meniscus refractive optic. The receiver may include a quad-cell imaging system, or a focal plane array (FPA). The source of light may include a laser, or any collimated beam source.

Distance to angle metrology system (DAMS) and method

An optical imaging system includes a non-gimbaled telescope attached to a platform configured for outer-space orbit. Attached to the platform is a coelostat that is positioned in front of the aperture of the telescope. The coelostat includes two connected mirrors. Mirror one receives light from a scene of interest and mirror two receives light from the first mirror and transfers that light to the aperture of the telescope. The coelostat rotates 360 degrees around the azimuth axis. Additionally, mirror one rotates around the elevational axis to provide the entire system with a large field of regard.

System and method for a coelostat with large field of regard optics

There is disclosed a method of enhancing an image of a scene. The method divides the image into a plurality of frequency zones, and performs a plurality of Richardson and Lucy (RL) iterations of each of the frequency zones to obtain an enhanced image of the scene. The frequency zones and the plurality of RL iterations are determined using a Taguchi orthogonal array computation that minimizes radiometric errors in the enhanced image. The image may be Rayleigh sampled image obtained by a Rayleigh sampling system. A truth scene is not needed to use the method.

Methods for image enhancement

In an optical system having a detector means and processor means in which imaging data is obtained comprising noisy blurred scene data containing an object to be reconstructed, and noisy blurred background data of the same scene, a method for increasing the spatial resolution of the imaging data produced by the optical system, comprising the steps of converting the imaging data into a first matrix, regularizing the first matrix by performing nth order Tikhonov regularization to the first matrix to provide a regularized pseudo-inverse (RPI) matrix and applying the RPI matrix to the first matrix to provide a reconstructed image of the object.

Super resolution methods for electro-optical systems

There is disclosed in an optical system having a predetermined Numerical aperture which provides a corresponding level of spatial resolution and having detector means and processor means in which image data is obtained comprising noisy blurred scene data containing an object to be reconstructed, and noisy blurred background data of the same scene, an improved method for increasing the spatial resolution of the imaging data produced by the diffraction limited optical system. The improvement comprises filtering the noisy blurred background data of the same scene to obtain noise suppressed data; applying estimations of point spread functions associated with the noise suppressed data and optical system to estimates of the noise suppressed data to obtain a reconstructed background image (I,(x)); and low pass filtering the noisy blurred scene data containing the object to be reconstructed (D,) and using the reconstructed background image (I,(x)) to eliminate the background data from the image data to obtain a reconstructed image of an object with increased spatial resolution.

An optical sensor is disclosed of the type typically including an optical system for focusing light onto a focal plane. The optical system having a predetermined Numerical aperture which provides a corresponding level of spatial resolution. The optical sensor also including detectors for converting the light focused onto the focal plane into electrical signals including imaging data. The optical sensor further including a processor which processes the imaging data in order to provide a desired level of spatial resolution which is substantially higher than the corresponding level of spatial resolution.

Apparatus and method for providing optical sensors with super resolution

The present invention concerns a system and method for controlling which regions of the earth are image sensed by a satellite imaging system having location determination processing and command and control for pointing a satellite to a specific location about the earth for imaging. The invention utilizes exclusion zones, which define the regions of the earth restricted from image sensing. The exclusion zones are either defined by hard wired logic circuitry, or stored onto read only memory in association with a processor, or stored onto random access memory in association with a processor. The stored exclusion zones are tied to the satellite imaging systems location determination processing system and command and control system. The random access memory is set with the exclusion zone regions of the earth by encrypted signals transmitted from a ground station. Ground commands transmitting imaging coordinates conflicting with the exclusion zone locations result in either the satellite being rolled or a mirror being rotated to a non-imaging position, or not turning on the data flow at the focal plane of the image sensor. The present invention also provides for a control of the satellite imaging system, as to sensing any region of the earth, by encrypted signals transmitted from a ground station for either rolling the satellite or rotating the mirror on the satellite to a non-imaging position, or not turning on the data flow at the focal plane of the image sensor.
