The present invention provides high solids, two-component polyurethane compositions comprising, as one component, polyisocyanate compositions having one or more isocyanurate made from bis(isocyanatomethyl)-cyclohexane, as a second component, one or more high solids polyol, and in either component, one or more tertiary amine catalyst. Optionally, the compositions further comprise one or more zinc amine catalyst. The compositions provide coatings, which exhibit an excellent balance of pot life and dry to touch or tack free time, as well as early rain resistance and hardness, while enabling a lower volatile organic content (VOC) of the compositions for comparable performance.

Polyurethane coating compositions comprising isocyanurate compositions from bis(isocyanatomethyl) cyclohexane and tertiary amine catalysts

The present invention provides two-component polyurethane compositions comprising, as one component, polyisocyanate compositions of the isocyanurate of one or more bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane or, preferably, a mixture of two or more of these, and of the isocyanurate of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI trimer), and, as the other component, a mix of a soft polyol having a hydroxyl functionality of from 2.5 to 5.0 and a molecular weight of from 500 to 3,000, and a hard polyol. Such compositions provide coatings, especially clear topcoats, which exhibit excellent scratch and mar and solvent resistance in addition to a good balance of hardness and flexibility without the need for increasing the volatile organic content (VOC) of the compositions. Also provided are compositions of a polyisocyanate compositions of the isocyanurate of one or more bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane with soft polyol which have lower VOCs.

The present invention provides methods of making shapeable composites in the form of finely divided materials or articles and the materials and articles produced by the methods, the methods comprising forming mixtures by (i) treating an aqueous thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer to increase the particle size thereof to a weight average particle size of 1 &#x3bc;m or more, and, optionally, dewatering to form a crumb mixture; and (ii) combining a thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer with one or more waste rubber vulcanizate having a sieve particle size ranging from 10 to 600 &#x3bc;m in the amount of from 15 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of polymer and rubber to form a crumb slurry, such that (ii) can take place before, during, after (i) but before any dewatering, or after any dewatering; and (iii) thermoplastic processing the mixture. Thermoplastic processing can directly form articles, like sheets or films. The shapeable composites have excellent adhesion to other materials. In one embodiment, the sheets and films can be formed into laminates.

Methods for making composites having thermoplastic properties from recycled crosslinked polymer

The present invention provides fast drying aqueous compositions, suitable for use in making roadway markings, as well as the road markings made therefrom, the compositions comprising one or more anionically stabilized binder having a phosphorus acid functional polymer component having a glass transition temperature (Tg) range of from &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. to 60&#xb0; C. and a polyfunctional amine component in combination with one or more volatile base in an amount sufficient to stabilize the composition by at least partially deprotonating the polyfunctional amine, and one or more phosphorus acid surfactant, such as an alkyl ethoxylated phosphate. Further, the present invention provides two component compositions comprising the above composition as one component and a second component comprising an absorber and/or the polyfunctional amine component. The fast-drying compositions are viscosity stable and provide wear resistant fast dry coatings even in humid application conditions.

The present invention provides fast-drying aqueous compositions that lower the cost of making roadway markings without impairing the quality or appearance of the markings made therewith. The aqueous compositions comprise one or more hollow core binder having an average particle size of from 200 to 500 nanometers (nm), preferably from 300 to 470 nm, and made of a first polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 50&#xb0; C. or more and containing one or more void, the first polymer being substantially encapsulated by one or more second polymer having a Tg of &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. or more, preferably, &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. or more. Fast-drying aqueous compositions may be one component or two component compositions. One component compositions comprise one or more volatile base, one or more polyfunctional amine, and one or more hollow core binder with a second polymer chosen from, for example, an anionically stabilized emulsion polymer, a polyamine functional polymer, a polymer having strong pendant cationic groups containing and mixtures thereof. The polyfunctional amine can be part of the hollow core binder. Two component compositions comprise one or more aqueous hollow core binder and an absorber component. The present invention also provides coatings and roadway markings made from the fast-drying aqueous compositions.

An aqueous traffic paint including hard-soft polymer particles, polyfunctional amine, and volatile base is provided. The hard-soft polymer particles, which contain soft polymer and hard polymer, have a hydrophobicity characterized by a Hansch parameter of at least 3. Also provided is a method of producing a traffic marking on a road surface using the aqueous paint. The aqueous traffic paint is suitable for application to road surfaces, including oily road surfaces, and may be applied at temperatures below 15&#xb0; C.

The present invention relates to the preparation of water based coating compositions having extended storage stability. The composition includes separately stored polymeric binder component and a crosslinking component. These components are mixed prior to application over surfaces, such as, road surfaces. The polymeric binder component includes an anionically stabilized binder polymer having at least one reactive functional pendent moiety, or a blend of the binder polymer with a polyfunctional amine. The pot mix of the coating composition has extended storage stability. The waterborne road marking paints of the present invention exhibit improved wear resistance on road surfaces in terms of paint remaining on the road longer than waterborne road marking paints based on the storage stable component alone.
