Implantable medical devices (IMDs) described herein, and methods for use therewith described herein, reduce how often an IMD accepts a false message and/or reduce adverse effects of an IMD accepting a false message. Such IMDs can be leadless pacemakers (LPs), or implantable cardio defibrillators (ICDs), but are not limited thereto. Such embodiments can be used help multiple IMDs (e.g., multiple LPs) implanted within a same patient maintain synchronous operation, such as synchronous multi-chamber pacing.

Mitigating false messages and effects thereof in multi-chamber leadless pacemaker systems and other IMD systems

Described herein are implantable medical systems, and methods for use therewith, that provide a temperature based rate response for a patient within which the implantable medical system is implanted. Such a method can include sensing a blood temperature signal indicative of a core body temperature of the patient, and producing a relative temperature signal based on the blood temperature signal. The method can further include producing a moving baseline temperature signal based on the relative temperature signal, producing a proportional response signal based on the relative temperature signal and the moving baseline temperature signal, and producing a sensor indicated rate response signal based on the proportional response signal and a base rate. The sensor indicated rate response signal can also be based on a dip response signal and/or a slope response signal. Additionally, a pacing rate is controlled based on the sensor indicated rate response signal.

System and method for rate modulated cardiac therapy utilizing a temperature sensor

Techniques for use with an implantable medical device (IMD) reduce how often a first receiver of the IMD wakes up a second receiver thereof to reduce power consumption. A received message and/or a channel over which messages can be received is/are examined, and a value is adjusted based on results thereof. After being adjusted, the value is compared to a first threshold if the IMD is in a normal state, or compared to a second threshold if the IMD is in a noise state. If in the normal state, there is a determination whether to stay in the normal state or switch to the noise state. If in the noise state, there is a determination whether to stay in the noise state or switch to the normal state. At least the second receiver is temporarily put to sleep, if the IMD is maintained in or switched to the noise state.

Mitigating excessive wakeups in leadless dual-chamber pacing systems and other IMD systems

Implantable medical devices (IMDs), and methods for use therewith, reduce how often an IMD accepts false messages. Such a method can include receiving a message and performing error detection and correction on the message. Such a method can also include determining a quality measure indicative of a quality of the message and/or a quality of a channel over which the message was received, and determining whether to reject the message based on the quality measure.

Mitigating false messaging in leadless dual-chamber pacing systems and other IMD systems

A cardiac rhythm management system provides an increase in pacing rate as a combination of responses to three characteristics of a relative-temperature signal: a dip, a positive slope, and a positive magnitude. The relative-temperature signal is the difference between a short-term and a long-term temperature average. A dip produces a limited and temporary rate increase having a first proportionality. A positive slope produces a rate increase with a second proportionality. A positive magnitude produces a rate increase with a third proportionality. The dip response seeds the slope response to provide a seamless and immediate rate transition after a dip. The cardiac rhythm management system limits and filters the sum of the rate increases to provide a sensor indicated rate, which is used to stimulate the heart.

System and method for rate modulated cardiac therapy utilizing a temperature senor

Implantable medical devices (IMDs), and methods for use therewith, reduce how often an IMD accepts false messages. Such a method can include receiving a message and measuring a message interval indicative of a length of time between when the message was received and when a preceding message was received. The method can also include determining, based on the measured message interval, whether the message was received within the message window, and determining whether to reject the message based on results thereof. The method can also include adjusting a temporal position of the message window based on the measured message interval. The method can further include determining a quality measure indicative of a quality of the message and/or a quality of a channel over which the message was received, and determining whether to reject the message based on the quality measure.

An adjunctive ultrasound mammography system and associated methods use an adjunctive ultrasound display configured for quick, intuitive, interactive viewing of volumetric ultrasound scans, displayed near a conventional x-ray mammogram display. Preferred navigations among a thick-slice image array, a selected enlarged thick-slice image, and planar ultrasound views are described, including a mode in which the planar ultrasound views are updated in real time as a cursor is moved across an active thick-slice image. In one example the thick-slice images are inverted prior to display, with non-breast areas of the image preferably segmented out and reset to dark. The inverted thick-slice images are of more familiar significance to radiologists as they are more like conventional x-ray mammograms and allow benign features to be more easily dismissed as compared to non-inverted thick-slice images. Preferred embodiments emphasize larger mass lesions and that compensate for mass lesions that straddle thick-slice region borders.

Adjunctive ultrasound processing and display for breast cancer screening

In accordance with an embodiment, a system and method is provided for providing communications between first and second implantable medical devices (IMDs). The system comprises a first implantable medical device (IMD) configured to transmit a first event message during or preceding a first cardiac cycle, and a second IMD configured to receive the first event message, wherein receipt of the first event message configures the second IMD to generate pacing pulses for only a predetermined number ('n') of consecutive cardiac cycles, wherein n is an integer equal to or greater than 2. The method comprises transmitting a first event message during or preceding a first cardiac cycle from the first IMD, receiving the first event message at the second IMD, in response to receiving the first event message, arming the second IMD to generate a pacing pulse for a second cardiac cycle, and arming the second IMD to generate a pacing pulse for only a predetermined number of consecutive cardiac cycles immediately subsequent to the second cardiac cycle.

Leadless dual-chamber pacing system and method

An adjunctive ultrasound mammography system and associated methods are described, comprising a scanning apparatus for facilitating standardized, repeatable breast ultrasound scans, and further comprising an adjunctive ultrasound display apparatus configured for fast, intuitive viewing of adjunctive ultrasound data concurrently with x-ray mammogram information. In one preferred embodiment, thick-slice ultrasound images are displayed near an x-ray mammogram such that a screening radiologist can quickly view the thick-slice images for assistance in interpreting the x-ray mammogram. Methods for concurrently acquiring and displaying vibrational resonance image (VDI) data are described. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) algorithms that incorporate acoustically-based feature vectors are described, the feature vectors including lateral shadow metrics, vertical shadow metrics, posterior enhancement metrics, and VDI-based metrics. Algorithms are also described that combine x-ray mammogram CAD results with adjunctive ultrasound CAD results without requiring complex image registrations therebetween. Many of the practical, economic, and political barriers to acceptance and integration of ultrasound mammography into existing mass breast cancer screening environments are mitigated.
