Two motorsandorandeach are connected to the slit masksandor movable mirrorsandfor incrementally moving the illuminated slits across the eyeto plurality of positions. A video cameracaptures images of the illuminated slits on the eyeand a frame grabberis connected to the video camera for storing the captured images. The rapid switching light sourcesandare powered-up to an approximately full power state and powered-down to an effectively off state in an amount of time less than an amount of time required by the motorsandorandto move the slit masksoror movable mirrorsandfrom one position to a next position. This minimizes the amount of time required to capture a plurality of slit images across major portions of the patient's eyes

Rapid switching slit scan image capture system

An ophthalmic placido patternis used to determine a curvature of an anterior surface of a cornea of an eye. The patternincludes a series of alternating light and dark concentric ringsandcentered about a central point. A series of shaped geometric shapesandare placed about at least some of the concentric ringsand. The shapesandare of a contrasting color with respect to the ringoron which the shapeoris placed.
