This invention comprises improvements to processes for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon feedstocks. One such improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides compositions comprising metals passivating agents having an increased degree of stability. These compositions comprise aqueous suspensions of antimony by vinyl copolymers, aqueous suspensions of antimony oxide by diesters of phosphoric acid, or aqueous suspensions of antimony oxide by cellulose derivatives. Another improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides a process for reducing the viscosity of liquid suspensions of metals passivating agents without substantially reducing the stability of the liquid suspension by the utilization of at least two different particle ranges of metals passivating agents. A further improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides an efficient utilization of metals passivating agents by introducing the selected agent into the catalyst regeneration cycle of a catalytic cracking unit.

A process for filtering contaminants from oil is provided. A polyalkoxyalkylamine is admixed with the oil in an amount sufficient to improve the filtration rate thereof. The polyalkoxyalkylamine is particularly suitable for use in processes for removing impurities from used lubricating oil wherein the oil is admixed with a treating agent to form a precipitate of the impurities and the impurities are filtered from the oil.

A hydrogen donor solvent selected from the group consisting of a full range crude oil and an atmospheric topped crude oil is used in a hydrovisbreaking process. The heavy fraction being processed is heated in the presence of hydrogen and the solvent under suitable hydrovisbreaking conditions. As a result, the amount of heavies in the feed to the hydrovisbreaking process is substantially reduced.

Oil containing solid impurities is contacted with a tetraalkylammonium salt wherein the alkyl groups have from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 2 to 5 carbon atoms, and solid impurities are then removed from the thus treated oil by filtration.

C. to about 420.degree. C. to increase the amount of the ash-forming components removed, the improvement comprising not exposing the oil to a temperature greater than 200.degree. C. before the oil is passed into a large volume of the oil already at a temperature in the range of about 300.degree. C. to about 400.degree. C.
