A spectral acquisition method includes actively processing a sample, such as a an opaque, friable pharmaceutical dosage unit, to expose characteristics of interior portions of the sample, and acquiring spectral information from the interior portions.

In the system for analyzing aqueous samples, the aqueous sample is deposited upon a sheet of filter paper which is held in a filter holder by clamping the peripheral edges of the filter paper between male and female threaded members of the filter holder. The filter paper with the sample is dried by a heated air stream directed perpendicularly toward the paper so that it flows around and through the paper. After the sample has been dried, it is analyzed by near infrared spectral analysis to measure the constituents of the dried sample.

Drying method and apparatus for infrared analysis of aqueous samples

A flow cell for use in optical measuring systems particularly suited for use with liquid food products is provided. The flow cell is manufactured from a single unitary piece of synthetic resin which is transparent to light in the near infrared range. Because the flow cell is constructed from a single piece, the interior surface is continuous and the presence of undesirable cracks or crevices is avoided.

An electrodeless lamp which couples strong microwave fields to a very small bulb of diameter about 1/2' or smaller. The lamp is operated in a mode which is independent of the height of the cavity and which provides electric field lines parallel to such height. The height of the cavity is substantially reduced as compared with prior lamps to provide strong coupling of the electric field to the bulb.

A microwave powered electrodeless lamp which employs a hybrid cylindrical cavity which is part mesh and part solid. The cylindrical mesh portion permits the lamp to be used with an external reflector while the cylindrical solid portion enables a plurality of waveguides to be coupled to the cavity for high power operation.

A microwave powered electrodeless light source in which a relatively high power level is coupled to the bulb. This is accomplished by arranging for a plurality of energy modes which are substantially de-coupled from each other to be present in the microwave cavity.
