The present disclosure provides systems and methods to monitor analytes present in a biological sample of a subject using a piercing element coupled to a support configured to pierce a body surface of the subject, an analyte binding probe on or within the piercing to provide a change in an optical signal when contacting an analyte in the biological sample of the subject, and a detector configured to detect the optical signal.

Systems and methods for analyte detection

A contact lens having a cap, core, and base forming three layers to allow for the contact lens to be thick enough to accommodate a payload, while ensuring sufficient oxygenation of the wearer's eye. The cap and base are each a thin layer of gas-permeable material, each shaped to form an air gap between them and the core. The two air gaps are connected by air passages that traverse the core. Oxygen from an outside environment passes through the gas-permeable cap to reach the outer air gap, through the air passages to the inner air gap, and through the gas-permeable base to reach the cornea of the wearer's eye. The cap may be annular in form, having a center hole such that the cap does not extend over the central zone of the core, reducing a thickness of the contact lens.

Oxygen permeable contact lenses with thick payloads

A substrate carries electrical components. It is bent into a non-planar shape to fit into a contact lens. For example, the substrate may be constructed from a flexible circuit board. The circuit board has certain regions for mounting electrical components. The flexible circuit board is bent into a three-dimensional shape that fits into the contact lens. The regions used to mount electrical components remain flat.

A contact lens has a core thick enough to accommodate a payload. The lens further has outer and inner coverings that cover parts of the core. Each covering is a thin layer of gas-permeable material shaped to form a respective cavity between the covering and the core. Oxygen passes through the outer covering to the outer cavity, through an air path within the core to the inner cavity, and through the inner covering to reach the cornea of the wearer's eye. To increase oxygen flow, a patterned structure is formed at an interface between the core and at least one of the outer and inner covering, comprising supports at which the core and covering contact, and recesses forming the cavity between the core and covering for oxygen flow. The outer and inner coverings may be made from different types of gas-permeable materials having different levels of gas-permeability and brittleness.

Optical and chemical analytical systems and methods are provided herein. In one embodiment, a method includes exposing a mixture sample to electromagnetic radiation, the mixture sample including analytes, detecting responsiveness of one or more of the analytes to the electromagnetic radiation, calculating average responsiveness of the one or more of the analytes, and calculating a concentration of the one or more of the analytes in the mixture sample using the average responsiveness.

Optical and chemical analytical systems and methods

Various systems and methods of analyzing one or more properties of a sample are provided. The system includes a self-contained purging device having a sample holder and one or more analyzers for analyzing one or more properties of the sample. The purging device is configured to remove sample contained within the sample holder when an analysis is complete. In one embodiment the purging device is configured via an air pump having a tube in fluid communication with an air inlet of the sample holder, wherein the air pump is configured to deliver pressurized air to the air inlet and thereby purge the sample. The pressurized air is localized ambient air, and substantially free of contaminants. Methods and other systems are also described and illustrated.

Analysis and purging of materials in manufacturing processes

In some aspects, a device for apportioning granular samples includes a sample feeder defining a conduit, the conduit including a first opening to receive the granular samples and a second opening. The device includes a shuttle operably coupled to the sample feeder to receive the granular samples from the conduit via the second opening. The shuttle is configured to apportion the granular samples to incrementally enter a sample chamber to be analyzed. The device includes an outlet conduit fluidly coupled to the sample chamber and configured to permit the sample chamber to be evacuated.

Devices and methods for analyzing granular samples

The present disclosure generally relates to systems, devices and methods for analyzing and processing samples or analytes. In one example configuration, a method of analyzing an analyte includes shaving a first layer of a plurality of layers of an analyte to expose a first surface of an analyte. The method includes positioning the first surface of the analyte over a window of a hyperspectral analyzation subassembly. The method further includes scanning the first surface of the analyte by the hyperspectral analyzation subassembly to obtain information regarding the analyte proximate the first surface. Devices and methods for analyzing layers of samples

An optical element is described that is a single molded piece. It includes a parabolic mirror configured to reflect substantially collimated light incident along a first axis. The reflected light converges towards a virtual focal point located along a second axis. The piece also includes a plane turning mirror positioned with respect to the parabolic mirror such that the converging light hits a surface of the plane mirror after traveling a distance less than a focal length of the parabolic mirror. The plane mirror reflects the incident converging light outward as exit light, which focuses at a final focus point located a nonzero distance from the plane mirror. The final focus point is located in a plane defined by the second axis and a third axis, and is offset at a nonzero angle from the third axis relative to a point on the surface of the plane mirror.

Various systems and methods of monitoring laser safety by sensing contact of the system with a sample are provided. The system includes a focusing element for focusing an incident light from a laser light source onto a sample, an optical element having a collection zone for collecting a signal from the sample, a reflected light sensor for sensing a reflected light from the sample, wherein the reflected light sensor is located outside the collection zone of the optical element and on an inner surface of a housing of the system, an electrical circuit operably connected to the reflected light sensor and the laser light source and configured to control power to the laser light source in accordance with the reflected light sensed by the reflected light sensor and a spectral analyzer for processing the signal. Methods and other systems are also described and illustrated.

Systems having a reflected light sensor and methods of use

An apparatus consisting of stacked slab waveguides whose outputs are vertically staggered is disclosed. At the input to the stacked waveguides, the entrances to each slab lie in approximately the same vertical plane. A spot which is imaged onto the input will be transformed approximately to a set of staggered rectangles at the output, without substantial loss in brightness, which staggered rectangles can serve as a convenient input to a spectroscopic apparatus. A slit mask can be added to spatially filter the outputs so as to present the desired transverse width in the plane of the spectroscopic apparatus parallel to its dispersion.
