A coat including a coat body and a fixed collar coupled to the coat body and configured to extend generally circumferentially when the coat is worn, the fixed collar having a fixed collar retaining component. The coat further includes a protective collar that is movable between a retracted position wherein at least part of the protective collar is positioned in the fixed collar, and an extended position wherein less of the protective collar is positioned in the fixed collar than when the protective collar is in the retracted position. The protective collar is configured to move in a generally circumferential direction when moving between the extended position and the retracted position. The protective collar has a protective collar retaining component that is configured to interact with the fixed collar retaining component to releasably retain the protective collar in the extended position.

Protective coat with retractable collar

A protective garment including a body portion shaped to be worn on the torso and arms of a wearer. The body portion has a front surface, a rear surface, and lower edge. The protective garment further includes at least one pocket portion coupled to the front surface, wherein at least part of the pocket portion is located below the lower edge.

Protective garment with hang-down pockets

A protective garment including a first portion which is generally impermeable to gases and a second portion which is generally impermeable to gases. The second portion is releasably coupled to the first portion at a joint which is generally impermeable to gases.

Protective garment with removable portions

A garment including an outer shell configured to be worn on at least part of a body of a wearer and a pad directly or indirectly coupled to a selected location of the outer shell to provide padding at the selected location. The pad includes an open cell foam padding material which resists melting, dripping or igniting when exposed to a temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit for five minutes. The padding material has a sealant located thereon to reduce the absorption of moisture therein. The pad further includes an abrasion resistant material coupled to the padding material by the sealant.

A foldable protective garment including an outer shell shaped to fit about at least part of the body of a wearer, the outer shell being foldable into a compact position, and a pouch coupled to the outer shell. The pouch is shaped and sized to receive generally all of the outer shell therein when the outer shell is in the compact position. The pouch includes an upper mouth and a lower mouth located on a generally opposite side of the pouch relative to the upper mouth, and the upper mouth and the lower mouth are both selectively openable and closable.

A height adjustable protective garment including an outer shell shaped to fit about the chest, torso and legs of a wearer and having a waist portion shaped to be located at or adjacent to a waist of a wearer. The garment further includes an adjusting strip having an attachment portion directly or indirectly coupled to the outer shell and a free end which is generally spaced apart from the attachment portion. The free end is releasably attachable to the outer shell or to the strip of material to adjust the height of the protective garment, and the adjusting strip is located at or adjacent to the waist portion.

A protective garment including a generally continuous outer shell and a moisture barrier located generally inside of the outer shell such that when the garment is worn, the moisture barrier is located generally between the outer shell and a wearer of the garment. The moisture barrier includes at least one vent such that at least part of the air located inside the moisture barrier can be vented outside of the moisture barrier.

Vented protective garment

A garment of a type having an outer shell and an inner liner, the inner liner including an outer moisture barrier and an inner thermal barrier, in which the inner liner is constructed such that the moisture barrier is easily separable from the thermal barrier. The moisture barrier is releasably connected to the thermal barrier are about the peripheries of the thermal barrier and moisture barrier and the connections at the peripheries are designed to minimize penetration of liquid moisture from the ambient to the thermal barrier.

Hazardous duty garment with separable moisture barrier and thermal barrier

A protective garment, such as a firefighting garment, that is relatively thin and light weight. The garment possesses relatively high resistance to liquid water absorption, yet also possesses relatively high moisture vapor transport characteristics when compared to conventional firefighting garments. The garment of the present invention includes an outer shell; a thermal liner positioned within the outer shell; a moisture barrier positioned within the thermal liner and a face cloth positioned within the moisture barrier. The thermal liner is batting, knit, spunlace, woven textile or other suitable construction of a high heat and flame resistant material (such as an aramid or PBI material, or combinations thereof) that is treated with a durable, water repellant finish to minimize liquid moisture absorption by the thermal liner. Despite the liquid moisture absorption resistance imparted onto the thermal liner by the finish, the thermal liner still retains excellent moisture vapor transport characteristics. By positioning the treated thermal liner between the outer shell and the moisture barrier, the moisture barrier is protected from damage due to excessive thermal heat from the ambient and from abrasion and wear caused by the outer shell. Additionally, by orienting the moisture barrier within the thermal barrier, the TPP (thermal protection property) of the garment is substantially increased. This allows for the reduction in the overall thickness and weight of the thermal liner throughout the garment.

Firefighting garment

A hazardous duty garment includes an outer shell layer of heat-, flame-, and abrasion-resistant aramid material and a pad attached to the outer shell layer, where the pad includes a fabric substrate of heat-, flame-, and abrasion-resistant material bonded to a layer of silicone foam material. Preferably, the fabric substrate is a woven aramid and carbon fiber, face cloth material and is treated with a durable, water-repellant finish. Preferably, the pad is stitched to the outer surface of the outer shell layer and oriented such that the layer of silicone foam material faces the outer shell layer. The pad is used in the knee portion of a pant leg of a firefighter garment, as well as on an elbow or forearm portion of a sleeve of a firefighter garment and on a shoulder portion of a firefighter duty garment.

A firefighting garment including: an outer shell of abrasion, flame and heat resistant material selected from a group consisting of an aramid material, a blend of aramid materials, PBI material, and a blend of aramid and PBI materials; a thermal liner, positioned within the outer shell and including a batting of needlepunch or nonwoven aramid material, or a blend of such aramid materials stitched to a first face cloth layer of aramid material, a knit collar and arms having knit wristlets; and a second face cloth layer of aramid material, positioned within the thermal liner; where the material of the outer shell, the thermal liner including the collar and wristlets, and the second face cloth layer are all treated with a durable, water repellant finish. The firefighting garment does not require a discrete moisture barrier layer, yet possesses the necessary thermal protection ratings for use as a firefighting garment; thus, the firefighting garment is relatively thin and lightweight, thereby minimizing the bulk and reducing the hobbling effect of such a garment, and the reducing the material costs of the garment. The firefighting garment substantially reduces the amount of liquid moisture absorbed by the thermal liner, thereby maintaining the insulative properties of the thermal liner and maintaining desirable lightweight properties for longer periods. Further, the firefighting garment enhances the transport of moisture vapor therethrough for breathability and enhanced body-cooling.

Lightweight firefighter garment with durable collar and wristlet material

A firefighting garment including: an outer shell of abrasion, flame and heat resistant material selected from a group consisting of an aramid material, a blend of aramid materials, PBI material, and a blend of aramid and PBI materials; a thermal liner, positioned within the outer shell, the thermal liner including a batting, needlepunch or nonwoven aramid material or a blend of such aramid materials stitched to a first face cloth layer of aramid material; and a second face cloth layer of aramid material, positioned within the thermal liner; where the material of the outer shell, the thermal liner, and the second face cloth layer are all treated with a durable, water repellant finish. The firefighting garment does not require a discrete moisture barrier layer, yet possesses the necessary thermal protection ratings for use as a firefighting garment; thus, the firefighting garment is relatively thin and lightweight, thereby minimizing the bulk and reducing the hobbling effect of such a garment, and reducing the material costs of the garment. Lightweight firefighter garment

A protective garment, such as a firefighting garment, is provided that is relatively lightweight, possesses relatively high resistance to liquid water absorption, and also possesses high moisture vapor transport characteristics when compared to conventional firefighter garments. The garment of the present invention comprises at least an outer shell, and thermal liner positioned within the outer shell. A discrete moisture barrier layer is not required, but is utilized in certain embodiments. At least the insulating material of the thermal liner is treated with a durable, water repellant finish to reduce the amount of moisture absorbed by the thermal liner. Preferably, the outer shell, and optionally, the fabric substrate of the thermal liner may also be treated with a durable, water repellant finish to minimize liquid transfer therethrough. Thus, the construction of the garment substantially reduces the amount of liquid moisture absorbed by the thermal liner, thereby maintaining insulating properties of the thermal liner and also maintaining desirable lightweight properties of the thermal liner for longer periods. Furthermore, the construction of the garment enhances the transport of moisture vapor therethrough for breathability and enhanced body-cooling. Such durable, water repellant finishes are provided by treating the components with a commercially available perfluorohydrocarbon finish such as TEFLON (a trademark of E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Inc.).

A multi-use hazardous duty garment ensemble, such as a firefighting turnout garment, comprises an outer shell component and a removable inner liner component positioned within the outer shell component. The inner liner component is separable by the outer shell component and is adapted to be wearable as a second hazardous duty garment, such as an emergency medical service garment or a station work uniform garment. The outer shell component, separated from the inner liner component, is adapted to be wearable as a third hazardous duty garment, such as a wildfire brush fire firefighting garment.

Multi-use hazardous duty garment

A protective garment including an outer shell, a thermal liner and a moisture barrier, in which the thermal liner includes a flame and heat resistant apertured closed-cell foam laminate. The apertured closed-cell foam laminate comprises a layer of apertured closed-cell foam material positioned between and bonded to a substrate of woven aramid material and a substrate of aramid material of a lesser or equal grade. The thermal liner is appreciably non-moisture absorbent and provides high thermal insulation for its weight and thickness in comparison to prior art thermal liners. Accordingly, the overall weight of the garment is minimized, as is the movement-restricting effect of the liner. The non-absorbency of the thermal liner allows the liner to be positioned between the moisture barrier and the outer shell of the garment so that the liner does not restrict flow of perspiration moisture vapor from the wearer to the moisture barrier. The apertures formed in the foam layer promote transport through the liner of moisture vapor from the wearer which passes through the moisture barrier.
