A stand for supporting one or more musical instruments that swivels to permit the selected musical instrument to be made available directly in front of the user or in another predetermined selected position and can be locked in position for ready access. The present invention comprises a swiveling support post and a fixed inner support post contained therein. The swiveling support post is selectively locked or unlocked in a desired position through employment of a locking swivel assembly. The locking swivel assembly includes a tension spring whose tension force is employed to exert braking pressure thereby locking the outer swivel post in a predetermined selected position. A foot pedal release mechanism is provided which releases the force on the tension spring thereby releasing the braking pressure and allowing free rotation of the outer swivel post. A folding tripod base portion provides support for the entire assembly and folds for ready storage. A plurality of upper and lower musical instrument supports are attached to the swiveling support post wherein said upper musical instrument supports are radially displaced to accommodate the maximum number of musical instruments.

An improved deposited chewable antacid tablet containing solid antacid particles which includes solid antacid particles having a primary particle size of less than 100 millimicrons, which particles are thoroughly coated with a mixture composed of a fatty material or oil, a surfactant, and a flavorant selected from the group consisting of chocolate, mint-chocolate, butter, vanilla, butter fat and mint flavors. The fat or oil is present in an amount of from about 25% to about 45% of the mixture. As a result of the mixture coated on the antacid particles a non-chalky, non-gritty, antacid tablet is provided which readily disintegrates upon exposure to saliva as such way as to function as a liquid antacid.

A method for treating teeth to reduce caries is provided wherein the teeth are contacted with a hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, in the presence of a sugar, for example, as contained in a chewing gum composition or toothpaste or powder composition, the hydrogenated starch hydrolysate and sugar being present in an amount sufficient to inhibit growth of Streptococcus mutans in the oral cavity or on the teeth.

A breath freshener composition is provided which may be in the form of a comestible, such as a pill, powder, tablet, pressed candy or mint, boiled candy, mouthwash, dental cream, chewing gum and the like, and which includes as its active ingredient a vegetable oil employed in combination with magnesium hydroxide or basic hydrated magnesium carbonate. The above breath freshener composition is especially effective in eliminating onion odor in the mouth and saliva. In addition, a method is provided for inhibiting bad breath wherein any of the above combinations are employed.

A chewing gum is provided which has a soft consistency, an easy bite through, improved flavor characteristics and shelf-life and does not stick to its wrapper. These advantages are attained through the use of pure fructose syrup in place of corn syrup as a sweetener-plasticizer-bulking agent.

A coextruded chewing gum is provided which includes an extruded center portion surrounded by and bonded to an extruded outer shell portion. The center portion of the coextruded chewing gum may contain increased amounts of flavor, substantially greater than that ordinarily employed in chewing gums of conventional structure, and may have a different density than the outer shell portion to provide a textural difference upon chewing.

A stable liquid red beet color is provided which may be stored at room temperature and which is formed of spray-dried liquid red beet color carried on a solid medium, such as gum arabic or maltodextrin, which is dispersed in a liquid medium, such as glycerin, hydrogenated vegetable oil or propylene glycol. A reduced calorie chewing gum is provided which does not decrease in viscosity upon chewing and contains less than 65% water-solubles, such as sugars and/or sugar alcohols such as sweeteners, and includes gum base containing high levels of inert fillers, such as calcium carbonate or talc in amounts of at least about 40% by weight, softeners, such as lecithin, and optionally synthetic non-caloric sweeteners, such as aspartame, saccharin, or cyclamates. The chewing gum includes at least about 10% air voids entrapped in the gum base matrix which, upon chewing, become filled with moisture causing a dramatic increase in cud volume.

A chewing gum is provided which contains gum base and a non-aqueous solid fatty or gelatinous sweetener or flavorant, such as butter, marshmallow or caramel, solubilized in the gum base. The subject chewing gum has the appearance and mouth feel of chewing gum as opposed to candy and a delayed but prolonged sweetness or flavor impact. The chewing gum is laminated with a slab of chewing gum which will supply initial sweetness or flavor impact. A method for producing the above chewing gum is also provided.

A method is provided for treating gum base to improve its resistance to oxidation without the need for antioxidants wherein air or oxygen is swept from the gum base by means of an inert gas, and the oxygen-free gum base, in particulate form, is coated with a highly oxygenated substance, such as molten sugar, sorbitol solution or hydrogenated starch hydrolysate which acts as a barrier against oxygen. The gum base produced by the above method and chewing gum containing such gum base are also provided.

An improved compressed soft chewable tablet is provided, which may contain an antacid or other active ingredient, has good flexibility, is breakage resistant and disintegrates immediately upon chewing. The tablet of the invention is formed of particles of antacid and/or other active ingredient which are isolated from other ingredients of the tablet, preferably by admixing particles of active ingredient with particles formed of edible fat or oil absorbed on a fat-absorbing material, such as microcrystalline cellulose and blending such particles with one or more tablet bonders; the tablet also includes additional amounts of tablet bonders, flavors and other conventional tabletting aids to help in making the tablet more palatable. Upon chewing, the tablet is quickly converted to a smooth creamy non-gritty palatable emulsion.
