A liquid dispensing nozzle has a spout formed of inner and outer concentric cylindrical tubes. Liquid is dispensed from the nozzle through the inner tube to a tank to be filled. Vapors within the tank are returned through an annular passage, which is between the inner and outer tubes, to vapor recovery means by a vacuum pump. The vacuum pump exerts a sufficient suction to pull not only the vapors within the tank but also some air from the atmosphere through the fill pipe in which the spout is inserted so as to insure that no vapor escapes to the atmosphere.

In an automatic shut-off nozzle, the vacuum chamber, which has its vacuum increased when flow through the nozzle is to be stopped in response to a predetermined condition such as the tank being filled to a predetermined level, for example, has the reduction in the vacuum therein controlled so that the automatic shut-off mechanism cannot be returned to its latching position by the attendant for a predetermined period of time after having been activated. A check valve allows removal of air from the chamber to increase the vacuum in response to the predetermined condition while preventing flow of air into the chamber. The flow of air into the chamber to reduce the vacuum therein must be through metering means so that a predetermined period of time must elapse until the vacuum in the chamber has been reduced by the air flow through the metering means to enable the shut-off mechanism to be latched.

A swivel connector comprises three hollow members with the first and second members rotatably connected to each other for rotation about a first axis and the second and third members rotatably connected to each other for rotation about a second axis at an angle to the first axis. The first member has adjustable members for connection to the gasoline supply and vapor return passages of a gasoline dispensing nozzle body. The third member has the gasoline supply and vapor return hoses, which are connected to the pump pedestal, connected thereto. A hollow tubular member is supported in the first and third members and extends through the second member to provide the passage for the gasoline supply within the swivel connector while the space between the inner walls of the first, second, and third members and the outer surface of the hollow tubular member provides the vapor return passage within the swivel connector.

A liquid dispensing nozzle has a bellows secured to its body and disposed in spaced surrounding relation to its spout to form vapor return means therebetween. Sealing means, which can be integral with the bellows or separate therefrom, is disposed in surrounding relation to the spout so as to be movable relative thereto. The spout has a retainer thereon between the free end of the spout and the sealing means. The retainer has a curved surface, which is preferably spherical, on its end for engagement with a sealing surface of the sealing eans to form a seal therebetween to seal the vapor return means formed between the bellows and the spout from the atmosphere when the spout is not disposed in a fill pipe of a vehicle tank to be filled. When the spout is disposed in the fill pipe opening of the tank to be filled, the sealing surface of the sealing means engages the fill pipe to seal the fill pipe opening so that the vapors escape from the tank to the vapor return means formed between the bellows and the spout and from there to a vapor recovery passage in the nozzle body.
