Membrane filtration systems can be used to purify liquid streams for downstream use. In practice, foulant can build-up on the surface of a membrane within a filtration system over time. The effectiveness of the filtration system will deteriorate if the fouling is not properly controlled. In some examples, a method of controlling membrane fouling in a pressurized membrane system involves supplying a feed stream that is predominately air mixed with water to the membrane. In other words, the feed stream a greater volume of air than water, even though it is the water being processed by the membrane. Supplying the pressurized membrane system with a feed stream that contains a greater volume of air than water can yield significantly better performance than supplying the membrane with a feed stream that contains a greater volume of water than air.

Systems and techniques for cleaning pressure membrane systems using a water-in-air cleaning stream

This disclosure relates to compositions and methods of reducing corrosion using benzimidazoles. The method may include adding a benzimidazole and a halogen to an aqueous system that is in contact with a metal surface. The halogen may be bromine, iodine, or any combination thereof. In some cases, adding the halogen may be optional depending on the substituents on the benzimidazole ring. Compositions are also disclosed that include a benzimidazole, optionally a halogen depending on the substituents on the benzimidazole ring, and optionally a halogen stabilizer.

Vehicle-locating flag

Disclosed are corrosion inhibitor compounds and compositions useful for preventing or inhibiting corrosion of surfaces found in cooling water applications. In some embodiments, the surfaces may include mild steel, aluminum, brass, copper, galvanized steel, a copper alloy, admirality brass, or any combination thereof. Also disclosed are methods of using the compounds and compositions as corrosion inhibitors. In some embodiments, the corrosion inhibitor compounds and compositions are used in cooling water applications.

Tetrazole based corrosion inhibitors

Disclosed are novel compounds and methods useful in applications relating to industrial water systems. The compounds of the present invention are nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds comprising a benzotriazole covalently bonded to a benzimidazole moiety, and provide enhanced protection against corrosion of metals in aqueous systems. The compounds of the present invention are generally resistant to halogen attack and provide good corrosion resistance in the presence of oxidizing halogen-based biocides.

Corrosion inhibitors

The expandable device used in methods of the present invention can be, for example, an expandable cage, a balloon, a balloon-expandable stent or a self-expanding stent.

Methods of stabilizing the sacroiliac joint

The present invention comprises a method of stabilizing adjacent vertebral bodies with an expandable and size varying spinal fusion intervertebral implant device that comprises an expandable top(s) and, or bottom. The method comprises inserting the device into the intervertebral disc space. Once properly positioned, the method further comprises engaging the expandable body of the device by inserting and rotating a screw that runs along the longitudinal axis of the implant. The expansion of the hinged top(s) and, or bottom may be used to restore normal balance, tilt and disc height of the vertebrae. Further, expansion of the device will engage surrounding vertebrae, thereby securely seating the device within the intervertebral disc space. The method further comprises providing a bone material in or on the expandable cutting body of the device and, or in or on the intervertebral spacer portion of the device to permit fusion of the adjacent intervertebral bodies.

Spinal fusion implant and methods of use thereof

A trace amount of a tungstate added together with an ortho-phosphate and/or phosphonite is disclosed for inhibiting corrosion by a nitrogen fertilizer solution. In particular, an ammonium nitrate fertilizer solution is in contact with ferrous metal storage tanks, piping, and equipment surfaces. Tungstate added with an iron stabilizer including a dispersant polymer is also effective for inhibiting corrosion.

Method for chemistry control in cooling systems

A trace amount of a tungstate is disclosed for inhibiting corrosion by nitrogen fertilizer solution, in particular, an ammonium nitrate fertilizer solution, (UAN) in contact with ferrous metal storage tanks, piping, and equipment surfaces. Tungstate added with a dispersant polymer is also effective for inhibiting corrosion.

Stabilized bromine solutions, method of making and uses thereof for biofouling control

A method measuring a rate of fouling caused by a heat flux through the surface subjected to electrochemical polarization. The method includes the steps of: providing a piezoelectric microbalance comprising a piezoelectric material with electrodes disposed thereon; exposing the working electrode of the microbalance to a flowing liquid, the liquid containing at least one fouling forming species; maintaining the liquid at a constant first temperature; maintaining the liquid at required hydrodynamic conditions; applying either a constant heat flux through the microbalance resulting in its working electrode having a variable second temperature or applying a variable heat flux through the microbalance resulting in its working electrode having a constant second temperature; and measuring a rate of fouling on the microbalance surface. The method also comprises measuring the surface density and heat transfer resistance of the deposit independently, thereby the corresponding ratio can be determined contributing to the deposit identification. The working electrode of the microbalance can be subjected to an electrochemical polarization in a wide range to systematically simulate the conditions of heat exchange surface produced by corrosion or other electrochemical processes. The possibility to apply electrochemical polarization, cooling or heating flux in the direction opposite to that causing fouling can be used to clean the immersed microbalance surface in-situ.
