Power management techniques are disclosed. For instance, an apparatus may include a bidirectional voltage converter circuit, and a control module that selectively operates the bidirectional voltage converter circuit in a charging mode and a delivery mode. The charging mode converts a voltage provided by an interface (e.g., a USB interface) into a charging voltage employed by an energy storage module (e.g., a rechargeable battery). Conversely, the delivery mode converts a voltage provided by the energy storage module into a voltage employed by the interface. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Bidirectional power management techniques

Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic system that includes a docking station configured to wirelessly couple to an electronic device and a wireless charging element removably coupled to the docking station. The wireless charging element includes a power receiving unit and is configured to wireless charge the electronic device. In an example, the docking station is configured for high speed input/output.

A voltage regulator may be provided that includes a first circuit to receive at least one feedback signal from a buck converter and to provide at least one driving signal to the buck converter to provide an output voltage based on the at least one feedback signal, and a second circuit to control a super-capacitor to provide the output voltage when the first circuit is not using the buck converter to provide the output voltage.

In an embodiment, a system includes a first link to couple first universal serial bus (USB) type-C control logic and electrical charger control logic of electrical charger circuitry. The first link is to provide a first data path between the first USB type-C control logic and the electrical charger control logic. The system also includes the first USB type-C control logic to receive first control data from the electrical charger control logic via the first link, and a second link to couple the first USB type-C control logic to second USB type-C control logic of a USB type-C power adapter circuitry. The second link is to provide a second data path for the first control data from the first USB type-C controller logic to the second USB type-C control logic. Various embodiments are generally directed to operation of a computing device powered with first and second sets of energy storage cells, the cells of the first set structurally optimized for higher density storage of electric power, and the cells of the second set structurally optimized for providing electric power at a high electric current level. A battery module includes a casing, a first cell disposed within the casing to store electric energy with a high density, and a second cell disposed within the casing to provide electric energy stored therein with a high current level. Other embodiments are described and claimed herein.

Mixed cell type battery module and uses thereof

A method and apparatus to balance adapter power supply and computing device power demand. In one embodiment, power to/from battery pack(s) maybe controlled by adjusting the output voltage of the power adapter via the current input to the power adapter through a feedback pin to meet power demand of electrical loads. Another embodiment provides a way to adjust the activities of the electrical loads such that neither adapter power rating nor the electrical load power limit is exceeded while avoiding system shutdown.

Balancing power supply and demand

A computer system has a controller and a voltage regulator. The controller generates a power consumption state signal for one or more components of the computer system to the voltage regulator. The voltage regulator supplies a first voltage level for the one or more components when the one or more components are at a first power consumption state. The voltage regulator increases to a second voltage level for the one or more components when the one or more components enter a second power consumption state.

Voltage regulation for a computer system

An on-package voltage regulation system includes a platform controller hub (PCH), a driver metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (DRMOS) control unit, and a plurality of inductors coupled to an output node. The PCH receives a voltage feedback signal corresponding to an output voltage at the output node, and outputs a control signal based on a difference between the voltage feedback signal and a reference voltage. The DRMOS control unit includes a plurality of switch transistors and a DRMOS controller. The switch transistors are coupled to the output node through the plurality of inductors. The DRMOS controller includes logic to determine an output current based on the control signal from the PCH, and to determine a distribution of the output current through the plurality of inductors. Transistor drivers control the switch transistors to share the output current through the plurality of inductors based on the determined output current and distribution.

High-frequency on-package voltage regulator

Methods and apparatus relating to controlling processor slew rates based on battery charge state/level are described. In one embodiment, logic causes modification to a slew rate of a processor based on at least a charge level of a battery pack. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.
