A parallel dynamical system for computing sparse representations of data, i.e., where the data can be fully represented in terms of a small number of non-zero code elements, and for reconstructing compressively sensed images. The system is based on the principles of thresholding and local competition that solves a family of sparse approximation problems corresponding to various sparsity metrics. The system utilizes Locally Competitive Algorithms (LCAs), nodes in a population continually compete with neighboring units using (usually one-way) lateral inhibition to calculate coefficients representing an input in an over complete dictionary.

Acoustic telemetry systems and methods with surface noise cancellation. One illustrative embodiment may include an acoustic telemetry system comprising a transmitter configured to generate an acoustic information signal that propagates along a drillstring, and a receiver configured to detect an acoustic receive signal from the drillstring and a noise signal from a surface environment. The receiver operates on the acoustic receive signal and the noise signal to produce a modified signal indicative of the acoustic information signal and having a reduced noise content relative to the acoustic receive signal.

Acoustic telemetry systems and methods with surface noise cancellation

Methods and systems employing combined source-channel coding for multi-carrier modulation (MCM). In some embodiments, a described method comprises: estimating channel gain to noise ratio (CGNR) as a function of frequency bin; determining MCM parameters that minimize distortion of one or more telemetry signals; generating a communications signal using the MCM parameters, and transmitting the communications signal via a communications channel. The MCM parameters may be determined by minimizing a telemetry signal distortion measure subject to CGNR and a transmit power constraint. The MCM parameters may further account for differing fidelity requirements when multiple telemetry signals are being transmitted.

Acoustic telemetry devices and methods that provide directional detection. In one embodiment, a disclosed acoustic telemetry device comprises at least two acoustic sensors and an electronics module. A first of the acoustic sensors detects a communication signal that propagates along a tubing string in a first direction. A second of the acoustic sensors is configured to detect the communication signal before the first acoustic sensor. The electronics module combines the detection signals from the acoustic sensors to obtain a combined signal that substantially excludes signals propagating in a direction opposite to the communication signal. Such signal suppression may significantly enhance the communication signal's signal-to-noise ratio, thereby increasing channel capacity. The acoustic telemetry device may be configured to support logging while drilling and/or full-duplex communication.

A method, storage medium and system for routing data messages between a plurality of processes running on a plurality of computers connected to a network, at least one routing process acting as an interface between each application process and other application processes and routing processes, each data message including data and indicating at least one property of the data, including at least one routing process that receives at least one interest message of at least one application process and incorporates information from the interest message into a data structure. Each interest message has information including the identification of at least one property of the type of data messages that the respective application process is interested in receiving. A first routing process receives a first data message from a first application process, compares at least one property of the first data message with information included in its data structure and determines which among the plurality of application processes is interested in receiving the first data message.

Method, storage medium and system for distributing data between computers connected to a network

A data management and distribution system has been described that includes router processes for controlling data communications between child processes running on computers connected by a network. Preferably, a router process runs on each computer, with the application processes running on the computer connected directly to the router process. As a result, all interprocess communications must pass through the routers. Each router process includes a connection table listing its connections with all other router and application processes, as well as an interest table listing the type of objects that each of the other processes are interested in receiving. Data communication is accomplished by an application process providing an object to its local router, which then distributes the object to all other interested routers. The object includes a destination list indicating which processes are to receive the object. Thus, with the use of routers, application processes that need to communicate with each other over a network need not know the intricate details (such as the communications protocol used, the exact address of the receiving process, etc.) involved in transmitting information. By placing the burden of managing the network communications on the local routers, the complexity of the application code is reduced since it has only a single connection to its local router.
