Also disclosed are processes for using the aforementioned developer in a tri-level development process.

Electrostatic developing composition with carrier having external

An apparatus in which an elecrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member is developed with developer material stored in a developer housing. The developer material advances along a path of travel to a development zone closely adjacent to the latent image. A cleaner, positioned in the path of the developer material and spaced from the photoconductive member, cleans contaminants from the developer material without impeding the flow thereof. The cleaner has a multiplicity of fibers disposed in the path of travel of the developer material.

An electrostatographic printer has a process unit adapted to be removably mounted in a main assembly of an electrostatographic reproducing machine, the process unit including a developement apparatus at which an electrostatic latent image is developed on an imaging member, and a transfer device which causes a developed toner image to be transferred from the moving imaging member to a copy sheet. The development apparatus is contained within a housing of an electrically insulating material, and comprises conductive means adjacent the exit portion of the development apparatus, i.e. the portion from which the imaging member emerges as it moves towards the transfer device. The conductive means includes a conductive coating on the exit portion of the developer housing, and a conductive seal member through which an electrical discharge path is provided. This reduces the tendency of debris to accumulate in the region of the exit portion, and prevents any debris which does accumulate from building up a charge (which would have detrimental effects on the developed image).

Electrostatographic machine

In association with a primary cleaner device, used to remove the preponderance of toner remaining on a charge retentive surface after transfer, a secondary cleaning member is provided, arranged for the removal of toner agglomerates formed by the agglomeration of toner, and toner and debris. The secondary cleaning member is characterized as a thin scraper member arranged at a low angle of attack with respect to the photoreceptor so that a maximum shearing force can be applied by the blade to the agglomerates for removal thereof. A relatively low load is applied to the blade, so that the problems associated with normal cleaning engagement of blades with a charge retentive surface are avoided.

An electrophotographic imaging process which comprises the formation of a latent image on a photoconductive imaging member; thereafter developing the image with a toner composition comprised of resin particles, pigment particles, and a sulfur containing organopolysiloxane wax; subsequently transferring the developed image to a suitable substrate; and permanently affixing the image thereto, wherein there result images with an absence of unwanted toner spots thereon.

Imaging process with prevention of toner spots

An apparatus in which an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member is developed. A supply of developer material comprising at least toner particles and carrier granules is stored and transported closely adjacent to the electrostatic latent image recorded on the photoconductive member. The quantity of developer material being transported to the electrostatic latent image recorded on the photoconductive member is controlled by a metering blade. At least accumulation of toner particles adjacent the blade is prevented and a flow of toner particles away from the blade induced. In this way, the escape of toner particles from the storage chamber thereof is substantially minimized.

Development apparatus

A system for minimizing free airborne particles generated by movement of a two component powder material within a partially open container. The two component material includes a relatively large component and a relatively small component as is used in carrier and toner for developing electrostatographic images. A filter with predetermined pore size is positioned across the flow of the two component material and connected to a source of negative pressure.

Apparatus for controlling airborne particle emission

An improved developer mixture comprising from between about 0.3 and about 5.0 percent by weight of finely-divided colored toner particles blended with at least about 95 percent by weight of carrier particles having an average particle size of between about 30 and 1,000 microns. The carrier particles comprise a mixture of particles wherein from between about 99 percent and about 90 percent by weight of the carrier particles have an average diameter of approximately the same size, and wherein from about 1 percent to about 10 percent by weight of the carrier particles have an average diameter substantially larger than the other carrier particles. Electrostatographic imaging processes employing the developer mixtures are also disclosed.

Xerographic developer

A system for minimizing free airborne particles generated by movement of a multi-component developer material within a development housing of an electrostatographic machine. The multi-component material includes a relatively large carrier component and a relatively small toner component for developing electrostatographic images. A filter member with predetermined pore size is positioned across the flow of the multi-component material and connected to a source of negative pressure.

Emission controller for development apparatus

An improved filter apparatus for use in controlling emission of airborne toner from a developer housing. The filter apparatus includes a foraminous filter member made of a relatively rigid inert material which does not chemically react with toner. A gasket and cover maintain a tight seal around the filter member.
