A saw chain for cutting aggregate material has sealing members to seal the pivotal connection between the center drive links and the rivets to prevent entry of contaminates into the bearing surfaces. In one arrangement, O-rings are mounted in grooves of the tie straps with the O-ring being compressively forced against the center drive link. The O-ring prevents entry of contaminants into the bearing surface between the bore of the center drive link and the rivet. In another arrangement spring type cup washers fit in a groove of the tie straps and the cup washers are biased against the center drive link.

Concrete cutting chain with sealed joints

An articulated saw chain for cutting aggregate material and the like. The saw chain has cutting blocks affixed to pairs of side links and guards formed or attached to side link pairs positioned between successive cutting blocks. A guard portion is thus adjacent each end of the cutting block. The guard portions extend to substantially the same height as the cutting block to protect the edge of the cutting block from impacting against an object. The guards wear at a rate that does not significantly impede or interface with the cutting action of the cutting block.

A chain saw bar nose has a rotatable sprocket. The sprocket assembly is adapted to conform in shape to the drive tang portions of the saw chain whereby the nose sprocket may receive operational forces imposed by the saw chain substantially as compressive forces as opposed to tensile forces. As a result, the nose sprocket assembly better withstands the harsh operating conditions imposed by cutting applications.

A chain saw feed mechanism includes an arm pivotally mounted to the chain saw and carrying a dog for pivotally engaging the workpiece at the kerf. Thrusting the chain saw along the longitudinal axis of the guide bar moves the guide bar along an arc concentric to the point of workpiece engagement and thereby cuts laterally through the workpiece. Longitudinal thrusting force applied by the operator transfers via the lever arm into lateral feed force needed for cutting the workpiece. The feed mechanism is particularly useful in aggregate cutting applications, where the chain saw is heavy and large cutting forces are needed to pass the saw through the aggregate.

Feed mechanism for a cutting device

A sprocket nose guide bar for guiding an endless saw chain. A configured sprocket is rotatably mounted in the nose of the bar and functions to elevate and transport the saw chain around the nose end. The teeth of the sprocket engage the drive links of the chain to lift the chain off the nose edge as the chain traverses the nose. The tooth tips project above the side link bearing surfaces and into configured notches whereby the teeth effectively provide the lifting action without entering the saw chain chassis.
