The invention concerns a ski for gliding on the snow. The ski includes a longitudinal beam whose front end is turned up to form the shovel. The ski has a box structure on a portion of its length, and a sandwich structure on its remaining length. Preferably, the ski has a box structure at least in its median zone of the middle sole, and a sandwich structure at least in one of the front or rear zones.

Ski comprising a lower sub-assembly providing mechanical resistance (2) and an upper cover sub-assembly (3). The lower sub-assembly (2) comprises an outer sole plate for sliding (20), lateral metal edges (21), a core (22), at least one lower reinforcement piece (23) and at least one upper reinforcement piece (24). The upper sub-assembly (3) comprises at least one thin, flexible outer membrane (30) and a filling material (31) made of deformable, elastic plastic foam interposed over at least a portion of the length of the ski between the membrane (30) and the upper reinforcement piece (24).

Assembly of the ski is effected in one preliminary step in which a mechanical resistance sub-assembly is produced, followed by a single molding step. During the preliminary step, at least one lower reinforcement piece (1), a core (2), and an upper reinforcement piece (3) are stacked together, said stacked assembly is inserted in a heat retractable casing (4), and the casing is heated to shrink it retracted. During the single molding step, the lower elements of the ski structure (11, 12, 13) are placed in the mold, the mechanical resistance sub-assembly is placed on the lower elements of the ski structure, the mold is closed, and a thermohardenable polymer is injected so as to form the protective covering (15) of the ski.

A safety binding for a ski including a body and a jaw having two lateral retention wings adapted to hold the boot and which are journalled on the body. Also included are two rotatable adjustment screws each adapted to adjust the position of one of the lateral retention wings, to accommodate boots of different widths. A coupling apparatus is also provided for coupling the rotation of the adjustment screws. As a result, when the skier adjusts the position of one of the wings by rotating one of the screws, the position of the other wing is automatically adjusted. In order to accommodate the journalling of the wings on the body, the coupling apparatus permits the orientation of the longitudinal axes of the screws to be changed with respect to each other, as the wings journal on the body in response to rotation of the screws.
