A gas bag for a vehicle has an substantially elongated shape and is convertable from a folded-up condition to an inflated condition. The vehicle has securing sites between which the bas bag is installed bow-shaped. The gas bag has an outer wall, two opposed longitudial ends and at least one element, the element constricting the gas bag in its inflated condition substantially transversely to the longitudinal direction of the gas bag so that the gas bag is shortened in the longitudinal direction and bridges the securing sites by the shortest way.

Gas bag

A gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a flexible wall which defines several sides of the gas bag. The flexible wall has on at least one of its sides at least one fold in the inflated state of the gas bag, the fold being defined by permanently connected adjacent sections of the wall. The wall further comprises at least one seam for the connection of the adjacent sections so that the flexible wall is shortened on the side and, therefore, the geometrical shape of the gas bag is modified compared with the gas bag of similar configuration but without the seam.

A gas bag lateral impact protective device for vehicle occupants is integrated in the back of a vehicle seat and comprises a compressed gas source, a thorax protecting gas bag and a head protecting gas bag. Both gas bags are to be inflated by the compressed gas source and are adapted to deploy on inflation in a space to the side of the seat back, the head protecting gas bag, upon inflation, deploying above the thorax protecting gas bag.

A gas bag module for a vehicle is provided, comprising an elongated attachment strip having two axial ends. The attachment strip is provided with a through-flow port at one of the axial ends and with two clip-type clamping sections. A first one of said clamping sections is located in the region of said through-flow port. The gas bag module further comprises a generally tubular pressurized gas source provided with several discharge ports for pressurized gas in its outer surface at one axial end. The pressurized gas source is clamped to the attachment strip by means of the clamping sections in such a way that one of the discharge ports is located opposite the through-flow port, the remaining of the discharge ports being sealed by the first clip-type clamping section. The gas bag module further comprises a folded gas bag which is in fluid-communication with the pressurized gas source via the through-flow port and which can be unfolded by the pressurized gas. Still further, the gas bag module comprises an elongated attachment frame which is located in the interior of the gas bag and which is connected to the attachment strip.

Lateral impact gas bag

A gas bag module of a vehicular passenger restraint system has a gas bag stowable on one side of a mounting wall and, for inflating the gas bag, a gas generator mountable on the opposite side of this mounting wall. An inflation opening of the gas bag is provided with a bead which grips behind the mounting wall.

In a gas bag protective device for a vehicle occupant with an inflatable gas bag, a gas generator with a plurality of gas outlet openings and a generally tubular diffusor surrounding the gas generator and provided with a plurality of gas distribution openings are located within the gas bag. A casing is provided for accommodating the gas bag in a folded condition, the diffusor and the gas generator.

A gas bag assembly in a gas bag restraining system has four elongated bars (2,4,6,8) of identical profile material which each have along their length a first (34) and a second groove (18) with a generally hollow cross-section, and a quadrangular base plate (10) which is provided with openings (14) for receiving at least one gas generator (20) and which has three edges (52,54,56) each engaged in the first groove (34) of one of said elongated bars (2,4,6,8) and a fourth edge (30) secured to another one of said bars. The gas bag (44) has an inlet opening (46) bordered by four tubular sections (42) shaped for accommodation in the second groove (18) of one of said elongated bars. A rod (40) is inserted into each of the tubular sections (42) for retaining the tubular section in the second groove (18) of the respective elongated bar.
