Provided is a method of improving the pour point of lubricating compositions comprising in admixture a base stock selected from the group consisting of Group I, Group II, Group III, Group IV and Group V base stocks, or any combination thereof, one or more polyalkylene glycol mono ethers and one or more pour point depressant by premixing at least one polyalkylene glycol mono ether with at least one pour point depressant prior to blending the premixed polyalkylene glycol mono ethers and pour point depressant with the base stock.

Method of improving pour point of lubricating compositions containing polyalkylene glycol mono ethers

This invention relates to reformer distillates as gassing additives for transformer oils. The reformer distillates have a 1-ring and 2-ring aromatics content of at least 98%, and are added such that the transformer oil contains less than 10 wt % of reformer distillate. The invention also relates to a method for preparing transformer oils containing reformer distillates and having excellent gassing tendency, oxidative stability, viscosity and volatility.

Reformer distillate as gassing additive for transformer oils

The invention relates to the use of particulate silicone resins in the absence of added organic solvents with particulate inorganic materials to form structured bodies and in particular molecular sieve containing structured bodies. The silicone resin is used in the form of a particulate with an average particle size of less than 700 um. Upon calcining, the silicone resin is converted to silica which acts as a binder.

Blends of ZSM-48 catalysts are used for hydroprocessing of hydrocarbon feedstocks. The blend of ZSM-48 catalysts includes at least a portion of ZSM-48 crystals having a SiO:AlOratio of 110 or less that are free of non-ZSM-48 seed crystals and have a desirable morphology.

The present invention describes a method to increase the activity of a catalyst by first performing an ion exchange step with a potassium ion, followed by performing an ion-exchange step with an ammonium ion. Specifically, the present invention describes a method to increase the acidity of a zeolite by incorporating a potassium salt ion-exchange prior to an ammonium salt ion-exchange step. Even more specifically, the present invention is drawn to a method of increasing the activity of a zeolite by employing more than one potassium ion exchanges followed by at least one ammonium ion exchange. The present invention also describes a method to reduce the amount of sodium normally found in commercially produced zeolite by employing any of these methods. The present invention is also drawn to the catalysts produced by any of these methods.

In a process for preparing a selectivated catalyst composition useful in the disproportionation of toluene, a catalyst comprising an acidic molecular sieve is contacted with a boron compound at a temperature in excess of 500&#xb0; C.; and the resultant catalyst is then contacted with a medium containing hydrogen ions to at least partially restore the acid activity of the molecular sieve.

Selectivation of molecular sieve catalysts and use therof in hydrocarbon conversion

A process for upgrading a hydrocarbon feedstock containing waxy components and having an end boiling point exceeding 650&#xb0; F., which includes contacting the feedstock at superatmospheric hydrogen partial pressure with an isomerization dewaxing catalyst that includes ZSM-48 and contacting the feedstock with a hydrocracking catalyst to produce an upgraded product with a reduced wax content. Each catalyst is present in an amount sufficient to reduce the cloud point and the pour point of the feedstock at a conversion of greater than about 10%, and an overall distillate yield of greater than about 10% results from the process.

Process for catalytic dewaxing and catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon streams

The present invention provides a process for producing a monoalkylated aromatic compound, particularly ethylbenzene or cumene, in which a polyalkylated aromatic compound is contacted with an alkylatable aromatic compound in the liquid phase and in the presence of a transalkylation catalyst comprising TEA-mordenite having an average crystal size of less than 0.5 micron.

Alkylaromatics production

A process for alkylating aromatics is provided which comprises contacting an aromatic-containing feed with alkylating agent in the presence of a silica-bound ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst, wherein the ZSM-5 has a crystal size no greater than 0.05 micron, said contacting being conducted under alkylating conditions to provide a product containing a monoalkylated aromatic fraction and a polyalkylated aromatic fraction, wherein the polyalkylated aromatic fraction contains at least 40 wt. % of the para-dialkylaromatic species. The polyalkylated aromatic fraction may be contacted with unsubstituted aromatic and a transalkylation catalyst under transalkylating conditions to provide a mono-alkylated aromatic-rich stream, e.g., an ethylbenzene-rich stream.

Process for alkylating aromatics

The present invention is a process for producing a high viscosity index and low pour point lubricating oil base stock which comprises catalytically converting a hydrotreated hydrocarbon lube oil feedstock containing waxy paraffins in the presence of hydrogen and in the presence of a low acidity ZSM-5 catalyst having a highly dispersed noble metal component. The ZSM-5 catalyst is subjected to controlled acidity reduction to an alpha value below 15 prior to incorporation of the noble metal component.

Production of high viscosity lubricating oil stock with improved ZSM-5 catalyst

Petroleum wax feeds are converted to high viscosity index lubricants by a two-step hydrocracking-hydroisomerization process in which the wax feed which exhibits branchingis initially subjected to hydrocracking under mild conditions with a conversion to non-lube range products of no more than about 30 weight percent of the feed. The hydrocracking is carried out at a hydrogen pressure of at least 1000 psig (7000 kPa) using an amorphous catalyst which preferentially removes the aromatic components present in the initial feed. The hydrocracked effluent is then subjected to hydroisomerization in a second step using a low acidity zeolite beta catalyst which effects a preferential isomerization on the paraffin components to less waxy, high VI isoparaffins. The second stage may be operated at high pressure by cascading the first stage product into the second stage or at a lower pressure, typically from 200 to 1000 psig. The second stage catalyst is preferably a noble metal containing zeolite beta catalyst which contains boron as a framework component of the zeolite to give a low alpha value, typically below 10 while maintaining an isomerizaiton selectiveity of no less than 48%. The second stage is carried out at relatively low temperature, typically from 600&deg; to 650&deg; F. with a 650&deg; F.&plus; conversion in the range of 10 to 20 weight percent of the second stage feed but with high selectivity for isomerization of the paraffins. A final dewaxing step to target pour point may be used with relatively low loss, typically no more than 15 weight percent, during this dewaxing. The final products typically have VI values in excess of 140 and usually in the range of 143 to 147 and are characterized by exceptional stability.
