Systems and methods for performing a photoluminescence analysis on a medium such as the fundus of a patient's eye are provided. An imaging device, a spectral analyser and an excitation light source are provided. An optical assembly defines an imaging light path between the patient's eye and the imaging device and a spectral analysis light path between an analysis spot on the patient's eye and the spectral analyser. The excitation light source generates an excitation light beam comprising an excitation wavelength selected to excite components present in the patient's eye for the generation of fluorescent light at a photoluminescence wavelength, and is optically coupled to the spectral analysis light path for projecting the excitation light beam on the analysis spot. An optical filter is coupled to the spectral analyser, and has a low light transmissivity at the excitation wavelength and a high light transmissivity at the photoluminescence wavelength.

System and method for performing a photoluminescence analysis on a medium

A spectroreflectometric system for performing a spectral analysis on the fundus of a patient's eye or other medium is provided. The system includes an imaging device and a spectral analyser. Illumination light from an illumination light source is projected towards the fundus of the patient's eye. The resulting light from the fundus is separated by a beam splitter into an imaging portion travelling along an imaging light path to reach the imaging device and a spectral analysis portion deviated to a spectral analysis light path. The system further includes a pointer light source optically coupled to the spectral analysis light path. The system is operable in an acquisition mode to concurrently obtain an image of the fundus of the patient's eye and a spectral analysis of an analysis spot on this fundus, and in a pointer mode to obtain a visual representation of the analysis spot within the image.

Spectroreflectometric system provided with a pointer mode for combined imaging and spectral analysis

A spectroreflectometric system for performing a spectral analysis on the fundus of a patient's eye is provided. The system projects probing light towards the fundus of the eye and collects return light representative of an image of the fundus. An interface module positioned at a sensing interface at an image plane of the fundus is provided and includes an optical fiber light collector having a collector input extending along the sensing interface for collecting the return light, and a collector output connectable to an imaging device. The interface module further includes at least one extraction optical fiber having a fiber input extending at the sensing interface and a fiber output connectable to a spectral analyser. The fiber input is integrated into the collector input so as to collect a portion of the return light corresponding to an analysis area within the image of the fundus.

Optical fiber-based spectroreflectometric system

A biosensor for detecting a microorganism in a sample includes a polymer matrix and an immobilized layer of bacteriophages on the surface of the polymer matrix, wherein interaction of the bacteriophage with the microorganism causes a detectable physicochemical change in the polymer matrix. A method of detecting a microorganism in a sample using the biosensor includes the steps of contacting the sample with the biosensor; allowing the bacteriophage to bind to the microorganism in the sample; and detecting a physicochemical change in the polymer matrix, the change being indicative of the presence of the microorganism.
