An electrical terminal with a contact portion and a spring arm and a method of insertion. The contact portion has a mating terminal receiving cavity. The spring arm extends from a bottom wall into the mating terminal receiving cavity. The spring arm has a fixed end, a free end and a transition section extending between the fixed end and the free end. The bottom wall has an opening with a front wall and a rear wall. The spring arm extends from the front wall toward the rear wall. A coined area is provided proximate the rear wall of the opening on the bottom wall. The spring arm acts initially as a single supported cantilever beam and then, upon deflection, acts as a double supported beam.

Electrical terminal with resilient contact arm with low insertion force and high normal force

An electrical contact, connector and assembly. The contact includes a contact portion for mating with a mating contact. A stabilizing portion extends from an end of the contact which is opposite the contact portion. The stabilizing portion cooperates with at least one stabilization member of a housing of an electrical connector to minimize the rotation of the contact relative to the electrical connector. The connector includes a housing having stabilization members provided in contact receiving cavities. The assembly includes a terminal position assurance device which engages the stabilizing portions and cooperates with the stabilizing portions to increase the pull out force required to displace the contacts.

An electrical connector includes a housing having an upper wall and a first protrusion and a CPA element slidably coupled to the housing along the upper wall between an extended position and an inserted position. The CPA element includes a base and a first beam extending from the base having a first arm and a first finger including an abutment wall configured to abut against the first protrusion and a tip configured to be engaged by a mating connector when received in the housing. The tip is deflected from a blocked position to a released position with the distal end engaging the protrusion in the blocked position and the tip being deflected outside of the protrusion to the released position where the tip is able to clear past the protrusion to allow the CPA element to be moved from the extended position to the inserted position. The CPA may be configured so that in the extended position it is to block release of a pivotal latch used to retain the connector to a mating connector.

An ergonomically friendly terminal position assurance device for use with an electrical connector. The device includes a terminal position assurance device for use with an electrical connector. The device includes a terminal engaging section and an engagement section. The terminal engaging section has a first end and an oppositely facing second end. The engagement section extends from the first end and has a bearing surface, the bearing surface has a surface area which is wider than the width of the terminal engaging section. The engagement section extends at least part of the length of the terminal engagement section. The bearing surface of the engagement section is configured to allow an assembler to push the terminal position assurance device during assembly of the electrical connector in an ergonomically friendly manner.

A method for attaching a contact element comprises steps for providing an electrical conductor with a conductive core and an insulating sheath, for detaching a sheath section of the sheath in an end region of the conductor for displacing the sheath section against the core in such a way that the sheath section protrudes beyond a longitudinal end of the core, and for crimping a contact element to the end region of the conductor in such a way that at least a part of the sheath section is being enclosed between the contact element and the core.

A contact pin includes a retention section having at least one retention member extending radially outward from contact pin. A first portion is angularly offset in the linear direction of the longitudinal axis of the longitudinal body from a second portion. The at least one retention member has a surface which extends outwardly, beyond an outer diameter of a first end section of the contact pin. As the at least one retention member is angled linearly, the displacement of material around the opening of the deformable component causes forces to be applied to the at least one retention member in at least two directions thereby increasing the retention force of the pin in the deformable component. The angularly offset first portion and the second portion cause the retention section and the pin to rotate relative to the opening as the pin is inserted into the opening.

Electrical connector including a connector body having an engagement side and a contact cavity that opens to the engagement side. The contact cavity includes a wire-receiving slot that is shaped to receive a wire conductor and a board-receiving slot that is shaped to receive a circuit board. The electrical connector also includes an electrical contact held by the connector body within the contact cavity. The electrical contact includes a spring member and an insulation displacement contact (IDC) channel. The spring member extends into the board-receiving slot to engage the circuit board. The IDC channel opens to the wire-receiving slot to receive the wire conductor.

Electrical connector and contact for interconnecting different components

A method of manufacturing an array of thin metallic foil strips of predetermined thickness, the strips assembled to form circuits that can be electrically connected to a printed circuit board, cables or attached to wires. The strips are assembled to a base using contacts. A first side of the strips are assembled to a first side of the base. The foil strips are draped over a mandrel and a second side of the strips are assembled to a second side of the base. The excess material is removed from the strip to form a plurality of strips that form independent circuits when assembled to the circuit board.

Method of manufacturing an interconnected foil contact array

A high density rectangular electrical interconnect is disclosed that includes a plug having a plurality of plug contacts mated to a receptacle having a plurality of spring contacts preloaded with an opening force to reduce mating force. The plurality of plug contacts may be a plurality of pin contacts, printed circuit board traces, or flexible film contacts. The plug and receptacle may include shields and/or shielding material that form a continuous shield around the mated plug and spring contacts.

High density rectangular interconnect

A high density electrical interconnect is disclosed that uses a bayonet action to mate a plug having a plurality of contacts to receptacle having a plurality of spring contacts. The plurality of contacts may be a plurality of pin contacts, printed circuit board traces, or flexible film contacts. The spring contacts are preloaded to reduce the insertion force required to mate the plug and receptacle.

High density circular interconnect with bayonet action

An array of ultra-thin metallic foil strips of predetermined thickness electrically connected to a printed circuit board, cables or attached to wires. An associated power source, on the printed circuit board, or attached to the circuit board, cables or wires, directs an electrical current through one or more of the strips in the array of foil strips. Depending upon the use of the circuit board, the foil strips can be used to start or to end an operation. The selection of the foil strip makes use of the electrical properties of the selected metal such as its resistivity as well as the thickness, length and width of the foil strips to provide a strip with characteristics required to achieve a preselected result. As an electric current is provided by a power source, it passes through contacts connected to the one or more foil strips. The application of current through the metallic material can be used to achieve a number of results, such as to act as a heating element.

Mechanically interconnected foil contact array and method of manufacturing

An electrical connector assembly is disclosed. A rectangular plug and rectangular receptacle engage to provide a sealed and durable connector. The electrical connector assembly provides electric, fluid, data and other suitable information suitable for surgical, medical or other device applications. A latch is used to secure the plug with the receptacle and prevent the plug from being easily removed from the receptacle. The connector is substantially sealed to prevent fluid, dust particles and/or other matter from entering the components and damaging the connector assembly.

Electrical connector assembly

An array of thin metallic foil strips of predetermined thickness electrically connected to a printed circuit board, cables or attached to wires. An electrical connector including a connector housing and a cable clamp for providing strain relief to a cable that includes wires terminated to contacts within the connector housing is disclosed. The cable clamp includes a midpiece, cable retention fingers, and a rotating clamp. The rotating clamp includes cable tightening ramps that have a generally radial wedge shape that apply a force to the cable retention fingers when the rotating clamp is securely assembled to the midpiece, providing strain relief to the cable. The cable retention fingers may be an integral part of the midpiece or may be provided as a part of a separate component.
